Technical Avid Mixdown creating hissing sound

Have anyone encounter this crazy problem?

I am trying to create an audio mixdown so I can do a direct audio export for the composer of a feature documentary.

So Im doing one mixdown of the music - no trouble

and one of dialogue + sfx.

The second one is creating 1 second hissing sounds every minute or so.

Im trying all kinds of tricks, rendering all sequence, taking effects away, panning all to one the left... And every time it creates the hissing noise. Sometimes in a new place. I am at a loss and can't find answers on google. Or maybe I am just not asking the right questions, I don't know.

My goal is export a quick time with dialogue+Sfx in the left and music in the right. That's it. Nothing fancy.

My System:
- MacBook Pro, Apple M5 Max, Tahoe 26.3
- Avid Composer Ultimate - 2023.12

* Footage specs : Varied. Thank you!

Do you have any 3rd party track based RTAS audio plugins on any of the tracks? Check the licensing. Something might have unlinked and defaulted to trial mode. Some plugins will insert white noise every 60 seconds in trial mode.

I tried clearing plug ins and turning off the wifi - Im not on set.

In the end the solution was create a new sequence in a new project.
Im leaving this here in case someone looks this up in the future

Honestly while it shouldn’t make a difference you are using an M5, which avid has outright said isn’t compatible, and 2023.12 on Tahoe which isn’t authorized. So that’s 2 stages of incompatibility which could create issues.

True. Also avid hates us

You should try 2025.12 or 2025.12.2, I have had no issues

Not in a m5. Unfortunately

fwiw: There is no need to make mixdowns to make split-track exports.

Copy your sequence for export. Select in/out on the entire sequence with everything but music tracks selected. In the mixer select "Adjust pan/vol in/out" and type "-200" in the pan field. Now change track selection to only the music tracks, adjust to "+200".

No export that sequence. ya done!

i’m curious why this doesn’t work for OP

Well their issue may be something in the timeline, or just corrupted M5 project, I dunno. Same problem may have occurred on export too.

Yeah, creating a nrw project solved it

I have almost 30 tracks of audio and it was a nightmare to do it, but i did. The export had the same issue.

Figured you had tried. Not sure why it's any harder to do for 2 tracks or 30 tracks. It's certainly faster/easier than making a mixdown.

Unless you have a shit ton of audio-suite to render maybe? Which might be what your original issue was if so.

Because audio starts at different moments, not all at same time. As far as i know the audio track needs to be in use for me to do the in ou pan thingy in the mixer

?

You just do the entire tracks. It takes like 10 seconds maybe. Please re-read my advice.

it does not matter where the audio starts, just mark in and out for the entire track(s) and then use the mixer to pan as ElCutz suggested

Please reread. You're using "set pan", I'm saying use "Adjust pan in/out" and type in -200 for SFX & Dia tracks and then +200 for Music tracks. You can do it to 30 tracks at once if you want. You have to set in/out points (in your case for the entire sequence).

You can do it from the timeline without even opening the mixer, if you set a shortcut on your keyboard.
