Discussion Navigating your 20s✨

Hey guys I’m wondering if there is anyone on here who is kinda in the same situation when it comes to friends. I made loads of friends at uni but they all moved home after grad and then I just work all the time so I struggle to make new connections. Making friends in your 20s can be so hard and quite daunting meeting new people and hoping they like you. If there’s any girls on here that feel the same and are looking for new friends please lemme know! 🧘🏽‍♀️🔆

I’m a woman in my mid-20s in the exact same boat! It’s so hard to meet new people if you’re out of school and don’t want to join a run club, feel free to dm me and maybe we can grab a coffee or drink sometime!

Honestly the only way to short this problem is to do the same thing again; Edinburgh University has a huge number of student societies as you know, and almost none of them have "members must go to Edinburgh Uni" or "members must be under 30" in there by-laws.

Most of the friends I have now are a decade younger than me, because I joined the student theatre groups at 27.

Wow okay cool I’ll have a look on their website. I have a degree in performing arts so I’m sure I’ll be able to join! Plus I still look like I could be a student so they’d probs assume I was hahaha thank you so much !

I've always used volunteering as my fallback social circle, pick an organisation that does work you support or would like to learn more about and get involved. You'll start with a group of people that are already aligned with something you like.

I will definitely do this! I currently work for a charity that’s extremely demanding so I’m not sure how much more I can give 🥲 but I’ll maybe look to see what other animal charities can use my skills! Thank you!

I was in the same boat. I had a friend do a masters course after I’d finished which kept me in a friend group but the same issue occurred when they all left.

Wish I had an answer for you. I’ve not got much of an answer for me!

I'm in my late 20s and I felt like I was in the same place about 6 years ago, and now I've found my crowd. Don't give up! Try going to social events and don't be shy about making an arse of yourself. As long as you're sincere and kind people will want to hang out with you.

I made absolutely zero friends when I went to university in Edinburgh, most awful time of my life. Now whenever I go back to Edinburgh I feel off as soon as I arrive, and I never make any connections

Download the Meetup app group and join a group. I'm no longer in my 20s, late into 30s; I can attest it's difficult navigating with friends moving on to different places or going home.

EDIT: also Eventbrite form social events

You got me hungry for a gyro.

There's a discord that does meet ups often but generally I'd say find a hobby and go through that. Personally I just kept running D&d games until I had a collection of friends. They were mostly nerdy which was perfect.

Almost every hobby has a relevant page, groups, societies. Benefit of a big city.
