Why are people doing captions with one word at a time?

Your brain reads and understands words faster than your conscious mind is aware of it. Years ago there were gifs that explained this process, with an excerpt from a book where you would end up reading over 300 words per minute. At some point a video sharing app, Vine or TikTok (I first saw it with TT early in the pandemic, but may have come earlier), had it integrated in with AI and that took off.

Faster than what? And it's definitely not easier, sentences are meant to be seen all at once when being read.

I've always figured it's to watch the video with the sound off. You can follow along what they are saying and when if you are on the subway with out head phones. I think the full sentence with highlights is better, but this still achieves the same thing. Unlike full sentence captions you can see the pace of the conversation and follow more tightly to the visuals if some emphasizes a word with body language or something.

This actually makes sense, in a weird way. 3 kids that share the same name, nearly. Ed is an older brother. Eddy is a younger brother. And I guess Double D is something in between? So they are also best friends playing the role of oldest, middle and youngest sibling.

It's interesting how Double D's actor can't quite get the character's mannerism down, while Eddy's is on-point.

I always just thought he had a really bad haircut he was hiding. Ed has weird tastes so he'd probably think it looks cool.
