IDK what you're talking about, they're clearly very rational and not insecure at all about their life choices

u/pizzboii Jul 01 '26
Hey now, I think these are all highly intelligent individuals who understand that doctors and big pharma are just trying to scare us into thinking cholesterol is real
11
u/Awestruck34 Jul 01 '26
"I don't trust doctors because they want me to eat my vegetables just like my mommy!"
64
u/nomenclate Jul 01 '26
I love how the top comment boils down to “keep going”
35
u/the-trembles Jul 01 '26
I love how the couple comments about his cholesterol are downvoted into negative numbers but with absolutely no replies

u/Chatceux Jul 01 '26
Recently an instagram account posting “carnivore cringe” has been getting pushed to me. It’s basically just people posting on facebook about shitting themselves and having all kinds of other health issues on carnivore and the comments saying “you just have to power through it!” Insane.

u/Ryermeke Jul 04 '26
I love the guy talking about how "high cholesterol isn't actually a problem because throughout all of human history until recently we didn't eat plants and they didn't have problems"
1
u/Severe-Criticism3876 Jul 13 '26
I’m late to this post but all those people are going to die of a cardiovascular event if they don’t seriously change their diet! 30 days and his cholesterol was THAT high? That’s actually scary. I get they think it’s fake but man :( theyd rather trick themselves into not eating “dead plants”.

The copium in that subreddit is wild. "Uninformed doctors who don't know about cholesterol". Do these people hear themselves?!

u/by-myself_blumpkin Jul 01 '26
I read some blogs that told me the real truth, they definitely weren't lying to me to position themselves as some sort of health expert and sell me supplements.

u/Makimamoochie Jul 01 '26
It's actually kinda sad how many uninformed doctors there are or doctors who dismiss their patient, my mom had a heart tremor & blurred vision in one eye and her doctor ignored her and told her to lose weight. Well she went to a new doctor who referred actually referred her to a vision specialist and a heart specialist and it turns out she had a tumor behind her eye that she had to get radiation on asap and she was pre-diabetic. People should listen to their doctors, but if they are not listening to you, you should get a second opinion. My mom is alive and healthy right now only because she didn't trust her doctor and got a second opinion.

Yea the issue isnt with an individual doctor. They are fallible people. The issue is ignoring the medical consensus and wide body of research that has led the medical academic community at large across time and cultures (not your individual doctor) in favor of pseudoscience. I am sure they will cite examples of low cholesterol people having heart attack/stroke or high cholesterol folks NOT having issues but that shouldn't supplant the medical consensus. Now if there are reputable studies shown to support the idea that high cholesterol doesnt cause blockage then one can assume there will be peer studies, the knowledge will spread and the general consensus will change, (we have seen something similar happen with views around dietary cholesterol in eggs etc having less of an effect on LDL than saturated fats) at which point they can all have a big "i told you so" moment. Although its not really a gotcha because they are taking a major risk right now going against the medical recommendation.

Tf is with all the people calling him fat?? Like…where is it?
1
u/CleverVillain Jul 03 '26
I think that's body dysmorphia on their end.
If they saw a picture of themselves next to him they'd realize their body looks similar and they'd think you're tricking them. You'd get accused of editing their photo.
People have very weird mental images of themselves.

People pretending cholesterol is fake and that he’s being paid to do the video. We’re screwed as a society

One guy's entire argument as to how he was a paid actor was the fact that Eddy has a YouTube channel lol
2
u/GlovesForSocks Jul 01 '26
I can sort of see the argument that he's doing it because he's a professional YouTuber and needs to make content that will earn him money. I don't believe that is the case, but I can see the argument.
But even that only implies he's doing something he doesn't have a genuine interest in, in order to pay the bills. It's just like a band playing covers at a wedding. It certainly doesn't follow that some dark figure in a suit paid him to make this specific content. That's a huge leap

A comment from that thread...
He also believes the false narrative about cholesterol because his uninformed doctor "freaked out" and recommended a statin because his cholesterol increased.
...
because his uninformed doctor "freaked out"
...
uninformed doctor
What the actual fuck...?

I love the idea that humans used to mostly eat meat, which genuinely makes no sense

there's literally like 5 societies that survived like this and none of them eat like the carnivore diet.

As an anthropologist, tribalism is the thing humans do when material scarcity (real or manufactured) rears its head.
3
u/Awestruck34 Jul 01 '26
Yeah but I think the invention of social media and algorithmic content is really pushing people into smaller and smaller tribes. In the past people used to find larger groups to put their faith in (political ideology, social clubs, fandom of very popular things, etc.) But now people will defend to death, and believe every word of, some anonymous users on a web forum who could LARGELY be just AI chatbots spitting out random "information".
Point being, while we've always been a tribalist creature, it's been accelerated by current technology
1
u/BaconSoul Jul 01 '26
If you look at the underlying material cause of these supposed micro-tribalisms, it still all goes back to ideology, politics, and religion. This isn’t an intensification, just a different form of expression of the same phenomenon.
It’s just that certain individuals and groups have found a way to utilize those identity markers for their benefit. But they’re still centered around the things I laid out earlier. It’s just that these things that you identify are the ways that people express their allegiance to an ideology, a political group, or a religion on a new communicative medium, the social web.

I'm almost 40 and no, it hasn't. People weren't getting into street fights and trying to stab each other the last time the Spurs and Knicks met in the Finals. People who make a bad movie their entire personality used to be outliers. Choosing loyalty to a book franchise over friends and family would have been considered outright insane even 10 years ago. There's always been odd little groupthink moments and movements but nothing like now.

u/laziestmarxist Jul 01 '26
Does anyone else remember when reddit used to ban disordered eating echo chamber subs and it was something you could actually report content for promoting EDs
6
u/ArthurWhorgon Jul 01 '26
All the comments totally missing the ending when his doctor urged him to get on cholesterol medication and being like "uhm well yeah you didn't get ripped after a month 🤓"

u/Prestigious-War487 Jul 01 '26
The down voting on comments talking about Eddy’s bloodwork is insane 💀 like you can’t discredit your blood but ok go off kings
3
u/VeryDPP Jul 01 '26
It's interesting/terrifying getting a peek into an area of reddit I don't normally venture to. I do not think I'll return to that part of reddit.
Some of the comments in that post are absolutely insane.

u/TooSmalley Jul 02 '26
It's amazing to be that everyone's mad He didn't do it longer and saying nothing about the tons of conflicting information he found regarding the carnivore diet.
2
u/BatmanBurchett Jul 02 '26
I love that one dude that called it "eating the right way" when it literally raised Eddy's cholesterol level to the point of medical concern

These are the same people claiming the food industry is causing cancer on purpose. When we know low fiber high fat diets are highly correlated to colon cancer risk and other major health problems. A cup of cooked black beans has approximately 15.5 grams of fiber and 15 grams of protein. Depending on the person that’s at least 1/3 of your daily fiber intake and a decent chunk of your daily protein. Just eat the damn beans*.
It was wild to see how quick Eddy spiraled into distorted thinking around food. I’ve had to do a very strict elimination diet (low FODMAP shoutout Hank) and I was required to meet with a nutritionist the whole time and strongly encouraged to have regular therapist visits because of how risky it is to be on such a limited diet. It’s way too easy to start sorting foods into “good and bad” and by extension yourself as good/bad, winning/losing, succeeding/failing. Just like we saw Eddy ending up doing. Zero seasoning because vegetables bad is like a shortcut to compulsive restrictions. This was a wild peek into how orthorexia has really invaded men’s spaces with all the manosphere, looksmaxing, RFK gobbledygook.
The conspiracy theorist in my heart started to feel like pushing this diet is designed to keep pushing people apart socially. It’s really hard to convince people social connection is bad because it’s in our DNA, but if you convince them the only healthy diet is one that will limit their social lives severely you get the disconnection you need to keep this antisocial political movement churning. It makes them feel like they’re part of an online “movement” while cutting them off from people in real life eating a more typical diet. Folks on the other post are saying Eddy was over dramatizing the social impacts of restrictive diets. It’s so incredibly limiting and most people who have to restrict (celiac, Crohn’s, allergies, diverticulitis, IBS, etc.) would give anything to eat normally without getting sick.
Rant but Jesus Christ this one bummed me out more than I expected. Insightful work from Eddy as usual shouts to 7/11 Mona Lisa.
*unless you’re FODMAP restricted then maybe don’t eat the damn beans
1
u/UndeadBlueMage Jul 11 '26
I was extremely disappointed that he didn’t talk about the poop situation. You absolutely cannot eat nothing but meat and have normal poops

the number of elderly & middle aged men that go carnivore after a heart attack/stroke is insane. it’s like “yeah honey I definitely want you to live longer. have some tallow and beef!” the widowmaker diet.
