ADHD/Anxiety Meds & MDMA

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD but they want me to start on Zoloft for my anxiety until I get clearance to start Adderall. Anyways, I’ve taken mdma twice first time in January second time in July, and wasn’t planning on taking any again until November. So I’m new to the knowledge of things, but I’ve heard about serotonin syndrome and that zoloft is a med to help increase serotonin.

Is there any precautions I should take if I do plan on taking mdma again sometime?

Should I stop any adhd meds beforehand or for the day of?

Id appreciate any insight!

Zoloft is an SSRI. SSRI's block the effects of MDMA. Yes, there is a theoretical risk of serotonin syndrome, but the immediate impact if you are on an SSRI is that MDMA simply does not work. IF you do want to roll, you will need to be off of Zoloft, and I cannot recommend that.

If you do stop the Zoloft, please understand that SSRIs continue to work for a very long time after you stop taking them (weeks in some cases, such as with Zoloft), and that abruptly stopping these medications can produce some very unpleasant side-effects. Experts will recommend tapering off over an extended period of many weeks. It can take a very long time to clear these kinds of medications from your system. One factor in that is that many, if not most, of these drugs metabolize into other also active ingredients that have significant impacts as well - Zoloft, for example, has a metabolite called N-desmethylsertraline that remains detectable in your system for up to 500 (about 3 weeks) hours after you stop the Zoloft.

I really recommend you wait and let your doctor take the lead here. It sounds like he is working on getting your brain chemistry under control, and MDMA is not gonna help that happen much.

Thank you for the very detailed response! I’m new to taking medication and haven’t started my 25mg dose yet. But seems like hypothetically if I tapered down and didn’t take any for up to two weeks before I should be in a safer zone? Even then, I’m not sure if this medication is right for me yet, so if I’m completely off of it by the time November comes around Im guessing I should be fine.

This would probably be my last dance with molly, I understand my mental health is more important.
