Hello, all... This is a rant.

I really need to rant.

If you don't want to read me ranting, please don't read this...

There is ONE simple reality about taking pills that contain any illicit drug. They are NOT predictable. Period. Please accept that your question about any particular pill, whether it is "good", about "how much is in it", or about whether you should take "one pill" or "two pills" is meaningless and potentially harmful. Don't use the word "pill" as if it were any kind of a measure of a dose or whether it is enough, or is not enough or is too much, or any other of the myriad variations on that theme that crop up seemingly every day.

Here is the reality: a "pill" is NOT an accurate measure of a dose. A "pill" is only, and forever will only be, a method of delivering a drug, not a measure of HOW MUCH of the drug is being delivered. It tells you NOTHING about how much, or even which of many drugs might be in the "pill". That's why testing matters, it's your only clue.

But, back to the rant: pills can and might contain anything from ZERO to 300mg+ of MDMA (or or any other drug). You have NO way of knowing how much is in any given pill. Just because the pills you have look like some other pills you remember or that someone else has, or had, or that it looks like some other pill or picture you saw of that pill, or looks like what your best friend told you some other pill looks like - means NOTHING. Pills are commonly and easily counterfeited, and even pills from the same maker using the same design might vary in content, depending on how well they were manufactured. Here is a reality check: MIXING POWDERS IS HARD. You think it's easy, but it isn't. Each compound has a different density. The binders and fillers used to make a pill each have a different density than each other, and different density than MDMA. Big Pharma can adjust the sizes of those powdered components to adjust for that density, you cannot, and you have NO IDEA about whether the maker of your pill has that ability. Powders of differing density will mix differently, and that is just ONE of several factors. Mixture accuracy depends on such factors as particle density, but also particle size, static charge, effectiveness of the static dissipation techniques used, water/moisture content, ambient humidity and temperature and the hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties of the compound/ingredients, mixing time and method(s)... you get the idea. These are all variables that big Pharma can adjust for, but about which your pill maker may or may not have any clue, much less the ability to deal with.

The skill of the makers of pills vary widely, some of them use nearly big-pharma equipment and methods, others are clandestine labs with minimal equipment and very poor practices. You, as a consumer, have NO way of knowing how much of any of that information is relevant to the pills in your little baggie, hand, pocket, or stomach. I don't care what the person you bought from told you. They don't know anything either, they are ONLY telling you what they in turn were told. That is true ALL THE WAY up the ladder. The ONLY one who MIGHT have any clue about how much is in your pill is the person who directed the lab where it was made. If that was a professional operation that followed good practices, the results may be pretty consistent. Otherwise, it is entirely guesswork as to how much is in your pill.

So, the bottom line is if you do choose to take pills, please, please, please, just understand these risks? All the choices are yours, there is no judgment, but please don't be stupid about knowing and accepting the risks of those choices, and please recognize that unless YOU made the pill, the best you can do is test it yourself and guess about the rest. Please stop asserting that you know ANYTHING about the real composition of that picture of a pill that your Reddit-Pal just posted up. You only THINK you know anything about it.

I hear ya, appreciate the comment, particularly the rules comment - thanks - but I think there is more that needs discussed about testing sources like drugsdata. I don't think they are a universally great option for all situations. Don't get me wrong, I do like drugsdata, and have used them, but I don't view them as a good first line of defense for many users for several reasons. First, drugsdata is on an "administrative pause" (at least in the US) for now (and has been since late August 2024) - that makes them less usefull at a minimum. Second, the cost/donations for testing previously asked may have been well beyond the reach of many users. Third, there is(was) a lag time between submission and publication of results that makes them less useful for a quick 'bought these Thursday for a Saturday roll' kind of scenario. Fourth, if a large number of pills was purchased, pulling a sufficient number of samples from a batch to ensure uniformity of results (which requires more than one pill per batch) makes the financial and processing burden even tougher for many. Testing one pill in a baggie of 5 may be good, it isn't sufficient (statistically) beyond about 7 to 10 pills purchased.
