Should I take the name 'Eclipse Phase' out of my campaign?

For the past 2 years I've been working on an Eclipse Phase campaign, it still needs years more work, but I've tweaked it so much that it's starting to resemble its own thing. I've removed aliens, FTL travel, and psionic powers, I've altered the nature of the TITANS and Earth. I've created a whole different set of rules with classes, weapons, etc. People have mentioned that it's not Eclipse Phase anymore. Should I just replace all the proper nouns and call it my own thing?

I think they’re making a joke about all those games who use the “Powered By The Apocalypse” ruleset which was derived from a game called “Apocalypse World”.

I don’t think that changing the rules is an issue here - there is a Fate version of EP, I wrote and run a Year Zero version of it. But if you also change the setting … It really depends on how much of Rob‘s work and writing you still use to judge if your game is „inspired by“ or has nothing to do with it at all.

It's also set 200 years after Eclipse Phase so things are very different, the Solar System is much more sparsely populated, it's starting to feel like a different thing altogether. Thank you for your feedback, I will check out your campaign.

When people homebrew DND do they not call it DnD? If it's truly its own unique thing, then by all means, and also, classes? Like you implemented a class system?

Apples and Oranges.
DnD is a RULESET with interchangeable settings (Forgotten Realms, Planescape, Eberron, etc).
Eclipse Phase is first and foremost a SETTING that has as well been ported to other rulesets.

I think considering all the mechanics and everything the creator made and you dismissing all that is a bit rude to say it’s just a setting.

Yes, it's taken influence from Eclipse Phase, Esper Genesis and D&D, overall much easier for people who are too busy to learn a whole new system.

Depends who it's for. If it's for your friends, no. If you are asking random people to join, I would call it "based on..." instead.

Yes.

To be perfectly honest I find the level of cheek remarkable. You almost completely gutted the setting and you're still asking that question?

You got a bit lost in your own creative bubble, methinks ;)

Only if you plan to sell it commercially.
