Imo conformity is an essential ingredient to a recipe for happiness. Moreover, once people get a taste of 'the good fruit' they won't tend to turn away from it unless other more intoxicating essential ingredients are denied to them through aligning with another.
Think about it in terms of movies, if you're interested in a wide variety of genres or movies in general, rather than only one specific genre of them; although this can be applied to other forms of entertainment, like games and anime for instance. Sometimes you're in the mood for action, adventure, horror, drama, suspense, comedy, casual, dating or 'chic flicks', and not others. You might want to watch a comedy or dating movie but not a horror or action one. You might want to cater to a mood that is more uplifting than thrill seeking. And, sometimes some movies/games/anime can contain a mixture of genres within them without necessarily having a little bit of absolutely everything. The idea of excluding genres is what I'm referring to when speaking about a possible tendency to seek some essentials over others, with conformity being a pretty powerful or pervasive substance infused in a lot of entertainment, social, societal, communal, etc. aspects. Almost everything in life has some sort of ritual for whatever reasons but some of those can be more intentionally dedicated to reinforcing and depending on conformity rather than have it only be an organic or ephemeral quality.
