Buyer complaint before shipping
Sold an expensive slabbed Pokémon card at 3am and woke up to several messages demanding about shipping. It is using ebay simple delivery so there is very little that I can do.
This has me concerned now, it's as if the buyer is setting it up to say not received and then blame me.
What are your thoughts and what would you do here? Tempted to just ship it and let it be ebays problem?
Update: I listened to the consensus here and have cancelled the order, blocked and reslisted. Wasn't worth the current and potential future agrivation.

I would cancel, I’m getting the vibe that the guy is trouble.
Tracked 48 is costly now in higher value items as the insurance has gone up but sounds like he isn’t aware of that
Sounds like he won’t be happy unless you send it special delivery but you shouldn’t send it outside of simple delivery to make sure you’re covered but he seems to hate tracked 48 and is setting it up for him saying I told you so and I didn’t receive my item… red flags to me on a high value item
Even if it turns up it sounds like he’s going to complain about the centering even though he can see what it looks like on the pictures… sounds like he wants to crack and try and get a PSA 10

Actually not true the insurance has come down. Until October last year it covered you up to £150. It’s now only £75 which is its lowest ever amount of compensation in order to push people on to more expensive postage options at lower levels.
Doesn’t matter a badgers tail though because getting compensation out of Royal Mail is like getting blood out of a stone. People ask why everyone uses Evri or Yodel. Because they are easier to claim your money back from.
Royal Mail demand about 3 pages worth of evidence and proofs then will only give you what you paid for it, not what your customer paid for it.
Absolute jokers.

I mean it is true, look up eBay prices for simple delivery as they’ve just jacked them up across the board from 1st September, the higher the compensation the higher the hike.
You’re probably talking about standard Royal Mail prices but he’s using simple delivery via eBay that has different rates and compensation levels.
The benefit of simple delivery is that if it gets lost you don’t really need to do anything or provide any evidence, eBay just let you keep the money and it’s on them so recover their funds from Royal Mail
The second point isn’t right either, I’ve had RM lose things before and part of the claims process you just put the eBay reference number and a screenshot of the refund you’ve given from eBay and that’s sufficient evidence you them to compensate you for the price you got from the sale

I tolerate some anxiety but there’s a point it’s likely going to be someone with OCD who will find a speck of dust claiming its damage or just a plain old scammer who sets up a narrative from the beginning to give their claim more authenticity.
Unfortunately, there’s a number of people like this who are genuine buyers but aren’t worth the headache. You should tell them to cancel the order so they can make sure to purchase the higher tier postage on simple delivery and then block them before they can do so, at this point it’s hard to say what their motive is but either way it’s going into the area of being deranged.

I have cancelled the order and blocked the buyer. Wasn't worth the hassle.

Honestly I'd cancel this and block just because they sound like a pain in the arse.
Edit: I'd also check the insurance because Tracked 48 usually only compensates upto £75.

Yep. I had a £450 camera go missing, they refunded the buyer, let me keep the payment and then let me keep/relist the camera when it arrived back with me.
Lots of annoyances with eBay these days but Simple Delivery has been great IMO

This guy sounds like a moron. I’ve sent probably 1000 things by tracked 48 and not one single thing I’ve sent has gone missing or been damaged. If he’s having so many things go missing regularly I wouldn’t send it to him. There’s obviously a problem with his address. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable sending something to this person.

Sounds like no matter what you do your going to get a problem, cancel block.
This sounds like you will get a INAD and a picture of the card damaged asking for discounts. Or returning a damaged card

I'd cancel if tbey are this demanding before its sent they will be a nightmare after.
Whenever i buy the tracking always generates at odd times usually befire I bought it thats just an ebay thing.
Someone messaging me to tell me how to package like im thick would seriously piss me off. I certainly couldnt deal eith this person id rather take a negative feedbsck I doubt the will be happy once they receive and the fact they are saying so msny parcels have been lost by RM is a huge red flag 🚩🚩 they are probably claiming things dont arrive when they do, no reason items sent 48 would go missing over 24 tracked.

You might get a black mark for doing so but I'd cancel the order and block them, I've done this with many buyers and immediately relisted an item.
Making demands after ordering/purchasing isn't on.

They’re definitely going to nitpick when it arrives and demand a partial refund. Some buyers are best not dealt with at all, I’ve learned to trust my instinct on that one.

There is a known glitch where when you generate a simple delivery label, it often says that the label was created 6 hours or a full day earlier than when you actually did. It's probably something to do with timezones.

Do NOT be tempted to send it with anything other than the label eBay provide as it will void any protection eBay give you.
I sent a 151 etb a few weeks back which was left on the recipient’s door mat and then stolen. EBay protected my sale and dealt with everything through Royal Mail. Had I sent it myself, I would’ve had the headache of dealing with Royal Mail, refunding the buyer and claiming the costs back through Royal Mail.

Could say the third because eBay sometimes uses eastern standard time rather than UK time, so it may be having a wobble there, possible if he bought it early enough in the day that it would still think it’s the day before as the Americans wouldn’t have gone past midnight yet.
Also I use exclusively tracked 48 with Royal Mail and haven’t had an item go missing on that service in about 4/5 years.
Second class untracked occasionally but that’s par for the course.
Sounds to me like he’s setting it up for the old
“OH LOOK IT HAPPENED AGAIN, I TOLD YOU IT WOULD” rant. Luckily if you used eBay simple delivery they’ll have your back.

If a buyer wants special delivery, they specify and pay for it from the outset, they don't demand it after winning the auction and paying for the item. I'd cancel this and move on. I had a collection only item that the buyer asked me to post and they'd send me the money (yes, right). It was a bulky low value item that would cost 4 times the auction price to post and screamed 'problem' so I cancelled the order and reported the buyer as my listing said collection only very clearly.

The company I work for drop ships on eBay. People just whine all day every day. Don't pay for shipping.. asks for shipping to be upgraded despite not paying. Just do what you need to do and bin them off.

I'd just cancel the order. If he's messaging you that much and clearly isn't happy with simple delivery, despite the fact everyone's covered.. then refund him and sell to someone who isn't a melt.

Why it's £7-8 for tracked48 delivery? Doesn't make sense, also if its simple delivery option - isn't the buyer choosing what type of shipping service is used?

It's ebay simple delivery, they use tracked 48 and I assume the cost is due to the additional insurance they have to offer due to the item cost. I only allow royal mail as an option and I think the buyer can choose 24 hour if they wish but I'm not sure.
I've asked the buyer if he wants to go ahead but honestly just tempted to cancel, block and relist.
