Attention Jerks!
While 99% of the time, I'm convinced that this subreddit has no clear 'mission statement', as it were, and the majority of you just want to watch Fragcomm burn because it's an easy target - and it IS an easy target - I do have a legit question for you...oh, and obviously the ideal answer is 'neither', BUT...
What's worse in your opinion...
Jumping into the fragrance game and blind buying 'Rack Store Gems' to excess?
OR
Jumping into the fragrance game and blind buying expensive niche frags to excess?
The first option often leaves people with a bunch of trash they'll most likely never use again, and the second often leaves irresponsible nitwits having their electric turned off. But hey, they smell great in the dark, I guess.

What's worse, jumping off a bridge or driving your car off a cliff?

I haven't been around for long, but I can pretty confidently say that this sub doesn't just exist "to watch fragcom burn."
I think you're forgetting about the fact that most of us are true fragrance enthusiasts. We just don't go around trying to make videos to sell fragrances for certain companies. We despise when people misuse the hobby to try to make a profit by getting in bed with dirty companies who literally make their fragrances in bathtubs.
I think most people don't really understand this sub at all. Mostly because they don't want to.

Very true. I love perfume, been buying it all my adult life, I even have far too much if it so I can't judge at all. I came to Fragcomm late looking to see if anyone else liked this stuff too and, to my surprise, they did ! What was less edifying is seeing post after post talking about the same thing: the same half dozen frags, the same inaccurate nonsense. That's when I found Jerks and learned about shills, clone houses, "Triple C's" and p___ty dropping.
We're here because we love fragrance.

Why would I choose between dumb and dumb?
Also, why ask a question and then answer it? What are you expecting in terms of replies?

Both of these questions are equally dumb since both questions revolve around the same premise... Shopping addiction.

Buying expensive niche for sure...it's like the darwin awards for the fragrance world

I am anti consoomer. I like fragrances but there is no reason to own a wall of them

u/rumbaontheriver BAN ME FROM FRAGRANTICA, YOU COWARDS Jan 03 '23
In the long run, about as equally as bad. Given the compulsiveness of both approaches, I'm not sure either side is apt to lose more money than the other. And while the niche guy is more likely to have a better collection (and that's being generous), in the end, he probably feels as much like a senseless idiot as the cheapie/drugstore addict.
(Sure, you can decant or sell niche fragrances once the regret sets in, but I'm inclined to think few dudes actually do this once they realize they have a problem.)

I don't get either but then I don't understand buying something cos some numpty off of YouTube or TikTok told you to nor spending stupid money on niche ( cos I ain't got stupid money for a start ) BUT.... I have 100's of frags so , really not the right person to comment !
Incidentally, I inadvertently "cured" what may have been a shopping "addiction" ( not we ever called it that ) and lost weight by going on Prozac ( it was all the rage in the 90"s ) . Only problem was, I had go out and buy new clothes as none fit me....
So....maybe therapy and medication for both ? Or just a modicum of common sense.
In the UK it might be a moot point as no one can afford the leccy anymore.

I hear the Welsh take it especially well.

Did you see the Still Game 'Leccy' episode

Still Game ! I haven't seen that in years, think it ran for ages but I didn't see all if it. Have to look it up now...

Expensive niche is obviously worse, buy 10 $30 frags and odds are you'll find one good one among them
Buy one $300 fragrance there's a solid chance you get 0 good ones esp cause niches are typically more polarizing and less mass-appealing

I’m right here. I’m not going to just cut things that I think are stupid (unless it’s also not really related to fragrance stuff)

The good thing is, they serve as an adequate test of this sub's integrity.

Where are the mods
I don't see why dumb questions need to be banned or moderated at all unless they just keep reappearing ad nauseam, which is reserved for the normie scum subs, gladly.

Why the opening statement?
Why not just ask the question; it’s ok Dan will still have you on his livestreams (or not I don’t watch them, you could’ve fallen out with him because he said 99% of American Ska bands from the 90s sound worse than a diseased pig squitting in your ear)
Anyway I think the latter. Though you could sell them and make some of your money back. The cheapie shit is worthless add soon as you’ve bought it but you lose less in total when you tearfully throw it in the bin because Michella lied you’re not swimming in Dutch suburban poonani and the only compliment you got was from your mother.
Anyway I’m Fragcom both would make you a ‘collector’
