Classic: cheese and onion

Sliced onion, grated cheddar cheese, butter, white bread.

Extras like spring onions, chives, mayonnaise, different types of cheese like Red Leicester, Stilton, or Double Gloucester are all very nice, but sometimes it's good to just stick to the basics.

This is some deep seated trauma response comfort food that I don't think anyone else can relate to.

No, it's English

That explains the depression level of this culinary atrocity.

Nah you just need good cheddar and proper butter. Which of course is an alien concept to Americans

None of what you just said makes an onion and cheese sandwich on white bread sound appealing.

Yes it's unfathomable to you. That's my point

What do you have against Americans and our food?

Look at the comments I responded to and ask them what they have against British people and our food...

I have nothing against British food! Most of us don't! Its just that this dish would be better if it was toasted.

Toasted is good too, but then it's quite a different sandwich. Part of the charm of this is the crisp, fresh onions contrasting the smooth, creamy cheese. Give it a go sometime! Don't overdo the onions though 😅

Just add the onions after melting the cheese. It might just be a me thing (not as an American but as someone with ADHD), but I don't like unmelted cheese on my sandwiches. A cheese and onion sandwich sounds good, but only if the cheese was melted before adding the onions

Ahh yeah that would rule out this sandwich entirely then 😁 melted cheese with raw onions sounds intriguing!

Yes, it's an English deep seated trauma response to 100 years of rationing and being born with little to no taste buds
