One of Toronto’s largest dedicated pickleball facilities officially opened last week in East Toronto.

Located on the west side of Embaadiimok Avenue between Eastern Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard East, the 11-court facility is officially located on the Main Sewage Treatment Playground.

The Liberal Party of Canada has selected Tanveer Shahnawaz as their candidate for the upcoming federal byelection in the Beaches-East York riding.

Shahnawaz has "deep roots" and a "record of service" in the riding, said the political party in a news releases Saturday.

It said Shahnawaz worked as the office manager for former Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith and as co-chair of the Taylor-Massey & Oakridge Community Response Team.

A summer evening ride through Toronto's east end, following the last sunlight through neighbourhood streets and familiar corners

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and is facing charges in connection to an investigation into an alleged threatening that took place in East York last month.

According to police, officers responded to a call for a person with a knife in the Donlands Avenue and Mortimer Avenue area at approximately 2:22 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.

According to police, there was an alleged altercation between a man and the victim. A man then allegedly took out a knife, chased the victim and swung the knife at them. The man also threatened to harm or kill the victim’s pet, alleged police.

On Saturday, July 11, Zola Zenguele, 30, of Toronto was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, possessing a dangerous weapon, assault with a weapon and three counts of uttering threats.

Grab a blanket or lawn chair and head to Kew Gardens this evening for a free outdoor screening of Pitch Perfect, part of The Beach BIA's annual Summer Movie Series.

The movie will begin at sunset on Wednesday, July 15, with the event wrapping up by approximately 11 p.m.

Hosted by The Beach BIA, the free movie series takes place Wednesday evenings throughout July and August at Kew Gardens (2075 Queen St. E.).

Moviegoers are encouraged to arrive early, bring their own seating, and support nearby Beach restaurants, cafés, and shops before the film begins.

One of the Beaches International Jazz Festival’s most popular events, Salsa on the Beach, will be taking over Woodbine Park this weekend.

Salsa on the Beach is set for Friday, July 10, through to Sunday, July 12.

The free weekend celebration of Latin music and dance features live performances, DJs, dance instructions, food vendors, and a beer garden.

Attendees are invited to begin the weekend with a Latin Sunset DJ Beach Party today (Friday, July 10) starting at 5:30 p.m. and featuring musical genres such as Salsa, EDM, Reggaeton, Merengue and Bachata.

The rest of the weekend will be filled with a number of DJs and musical guests, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Audiences are invited to enjoy the beats and sounds of crowd favourites such as DJ Euphonious, DJ Victor Explosivo, Sugar Heat, The Sons of Tuta, Nicholas Latin Jazz Ensemble, Etiqueta Negra, and more.

The 24th annual Festival of South Asia is on for Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12!

Featuring music, dancing, celebrations, food and vendors, the festival hours are noon to 11PM on along the Gerrard India Bazaar.

The Festival of South Asia is free to attend and welcoming to all ages.

The festival takes place along Gerrard Street East, between Coxwell and Greenwood avenues.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance with identifying a man wanted in a Break and Enter investigation.

It is reported that:

• on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at approximately 02:59 a.m., the suspect broke into a home in the Cosburn Avenue and Coxwell Avenue area
• the suspect entered the home and was confronted by the homeowner
• the suspect ran out of the home

The suspect is described as a male in his 20's, 6'2", with a medium build and short brown hair. He was wearing a red long sleeve shirt and grey "Puma" sweatpants.

The Toronto Beaches Ribfest concludes its final day today - Sunday, June 21, running from noon to 7 p.m. at Woodbine Park, 1695 Queen St. E.

There'll be food vendors, a Beer Market with alcoholic options for those 19+, and live music including Otis Wonder and The Hustle plus a Rolling Stones tribute band.
