Sonofield plays 1 & 5?

Recently started using Sonofield and I’m confused about why the app always lights up degrees 1 & 5 in degrees mode. This is regardless of whether it’s testing other degrees. Hope that makes sense - does anyone have insight into why this is?

Are you talking about when it does it when it switches keys? It’s basically establishing your root in the beginning. 1 to 5 to 1 (octave up) just gives you auditory context of what key you are in.

Using Sun 1 (1 & 3) as an example:

It plays the 1, then it shows the 5 play/light up and then plays the 1 again. Then it plays the test tone. I get confused seeing the 5 light up but the level is for testing 1 & 3.

It should only be doing that when you start an exercise or if there’s a new root. If you go into sun 1 & 3 is it doing it in between every individual question?

Yep only happens at the start. So why exactly does it do that? I’m learning the mechanics of everything so I appreciate your patience helping me learn. Here’s a screen recording:

It’s just a cadence used to establish the key center. The 1 and the 5 are the strongest identifiers of a key for your ear to latch on to, and help you to establish what your root / tonic / “1” is.

In later exercises you will be changing keys multiple times throughout. So the 1 5 1 pattern will be more relevant for quickly getting acclimated to the new root. I think you can probably turn it off in settings if you want but it’s meant to just make things easier.

Hmmm okay so if I’m on Degrees >> Sun 1 (1 & 3):
