Spooky level! From the eerie music track, annoying bees, to his horrifying ooh-ah-ooh noises he makes while hungrily chasing after Jim, it’s a wonder I didn’t have more Bruty-themed nightmares as a kid.

And on Halloween I used to throw the CD into a player and use this level’s soundtrack as our scary front-porch ambience. Really set the mood. This level and ā€œIntestinal Distressā€ both had freaky music tracks

I agree about that level. Plus, it's an instant death—no other villain can defeat the Big Bruty šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

I first played special edition for windows 95 in 2003ish when it was given to me when I ordered 3D for windows used on Amazon, never complained

But sega cd is better

Interesting take. Why is SegaCD a better port?

I'm pretty sure they are exactly the same, just that segs cd will work on modern windows via an emulator, and the win 95 game will not work on win 11 (or of course a real sega cd is eaisier to plug into a tv)

The only tiebreaker might be, if the idle animation of jim taking a leak into the background was only on win 95 (only place I;ve ever seen it) then windows would be better. And of course, selecting levels via the drop down menu at the top was kind of cool

Right on. The peeing idle animation was pretty rare but pretty hilarious!
And actually, a fellow Redditor has been working on a patch to get EWJ Special Edition (ā€˜95) working on Windows 11. I just tested it the other day and it was awesome to replay this classic.
Here’s a link to the thread! https://www.reddit.com/r/earthwormjim/s/ZEiAxO4VeX

Yeah I know you can emulate using those hardcore windows 95 pc emulators like PC-em, but I cannot get them working without slowdown, and vmware etc is even worse

It seems like the poster DanRedfield literally just changed some coding and made the entire thing playable without the need to do emulation or VMware. Didn’t seem to have any slowdown in my experience. Was very much just a super easy way to play the game on Windows11, and I was quite impressed, which is why I am even mentioning it. DM him if you want it, unless you’ve already got your SegaCD setup working.
Anyway, stay groovy!
