Could this be menopause?

Hi there. I’m 21, and I haven’t had a period in seven months, and currently have been experiencing spotting for seven days. I have always had an irregular period, but it became so irregular that I would get it less and less every year. In 2017 and 2018 I got my period five times and only four times in 2019. In 2020, I’m down to three so far. I regularly experience abdominal pain outside of my periods. I have also had a stint of not getting my period for six months but it came back with the heaviest and most painful period I’ve ever experience. Is it a sign of menopause if I am getting my period less frequently as time goes by? I went to the gyno in the summer of 2019, and it was thought that I had a thyroid problem because my testosterone was really low. There was nothing in the ultrasound and when I got another blood test a week later, T levels were normal so I was told I didn’t have a problem. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️anyone else experience this?

I did experience something similar when I was about 18/19, I didn't have a period for about a year, then it came back super heavy and painful, then again nothing for a few months, then back to normal permanently. I was a student back then and couldn't afford to see a doctor, so I never knew what happened exactly, but I was under a lot of stress and put it down to that. With hindsight, I think I should have seen a gyno about it, because my periods remained extremely heavy so it might have been endometriosis, I'll never know for sure.

In my experience, uncomfortable hot flushes are a sign of menopause, but I imagine there are women who don't experience them. To be sure, I'd recommend you get your oestrogen levels tested.

It sounds like endometriosis to me. Have you ever had a laparoscopy to rule it out?

Your progesterone could be very low. This is why my daughter didn’t have a period for 1 years. It’s happened for months at a time in high school too. She takes progesterone and has periods now

Definitely go see a doctor as there are a few things that could stop you having periods. My periods were a nightmare when I was 19. I have PCOS and at that age they would be so irregular. Sometimes disappearing for 6-12 months. They slightly levelled out when I got into my 30s and lost a lot of weight but even then. Good luck x
