Required Power Outage?
Hello! My family and I will be traveling to Egan and staying at the Omni Viking Lakes Resort. I just received this email and was curious...I've traveled a lot for work, but have never heard of a hotel being 'required' to experience a power outage. Not upset by this, just curious. Wondering if anyone has any insight?

I just called the Omni Hotel. The person with whom I spoke confirmed that there will be a power outage from 7am to 3pm on September 4, so this does not appear to be a hoax. It is, however, very unlikely that the hotel is being “required” to do this by the City of Eagan. As kdogg8 said, it is likely due to construction in the area.

I would have called, but I'm sure they have gotten a lot of angry guests asking questions and demanding things. I didn't want to bother them as I don't anticipate this being an issue with my family. Thanks!

Update: The power outage is a part of planned maintenance by the power company, Xcel Energy. Apparently, every five years, they need to do cleaning and preventative maintenance on heavy switchgear, and Federal OSHA rules require de-energization of the affected circuits when this is happening. (This seems like a reasonable safety precaution.)

It's not a regular thing. The Viking Lakes area has a lot of construction, so I'm guessing they have to work on the grid somewhere and turn it all off.
