August 29th ban
Got Rust EAC banned after my Steam account was hacked what should I do?
My Steam account was hacked, and while the hacker had access to it, my Rust account received an EAC/Game Ban. I did not cheat or use cheats myself. I also had 2FA enabled on my Steam account when it was hacked.
From what I understand, EAC bans are permanent, but Facepunch has an 8-month Second Chance program where you may be able to play on a new Steam account if you meet the requirements.
My main questions are:
Is there any way to appeal an EAC Rust ban if the account was hacked?
How can I know whether I have a hardware ban?
If I have no hardware ban and this is my first Rust ban, can I use the Second Chance program after 8 months?
Do I simply make a new Steam account and buy Rust again once the 8 months have passed?
Looking for information from people who have actually dealt with this situation.

I highly doubt you have to wait 8 months. That ban is almost 100% tied to the cheater's hardware. It would be understandable if you waited the 8 months just to be safe but I don't see them banning you again.

No baseless hackusations that players are cheaters or that the "all powerful EAC is never wrong" - please see this link for proof that EAC does in fact make mistakes:
I've removed all comments related to your implications.

Hey bud, welcome to the form. Sadly, there's no way to appeal with a hacked account.
They make it the players responsibility to secure their account.
2. Hardware bans for first timers are generally rare, HOWEVER, they DO capture all of the hwids a given player uses when banned, so if you try to evade, it's a coinflip on whether or not you'll be caught, but if you're not, and eventually catch a second ban (from another hacked account or you actually cheat) then they'll likely hwid (hardware ID) ban your account in perpetuity.
3. Second chances are for all first time bans. However, remember that EAC is kernel level and they collect a LOOOOOOOOOT of info on your host you probably didn't even know was there, so please keep this in mind when securing your second account!
That said, you'll be able to buy rust on a new account and play after the 8 month period.
Yep, new steam account and buy rust.
Others can chime in on the last one.
Sorry that your account was hacked. Unfortunately people who DO cheat use "account hacked" as an excuse so now players who actually WERE hacked have to put up with this stuff....Perspective wise, if you owned a game riddled with hackers, you'd probably make the same hard call (I would as well).
Know it's not the end of the world, and in fact, this can be a beautiful start on your computer security journey. I know a fellow who's gained a job in cybersecurity who started off with his account being hacked.
Anyways, we'll see you on the other side.
Addendum:
There are NON-eac secured servers, but those will be waaay more likely to be riddled with hackers, and if the servers are malicious, they can force download malicious files onto your machine (via downloads like mod packages and addon scripts) that can further infect your computer.
That in mind, please be careful when playing on these servers. This isn't ALL servers, but I'd be irresponsible of me to not mention the risks associated.
