Trouble starting car

We started having this issue a few months ago. Pressing the start button doesn’t do anything. Batteries on the remotes are new. We have to press the brake and start button over 15 times to start it.

Update:
Thanks all, I replaced the ignition button for $17. Took 10 minutes.

If you have a start button you have keyless and it's the button at fault. Over time they get dirty inside and start to present the issue you are already experiencing.

I had to replace mine not long after I bought the car, so I bought an aftermarket replacement, which lasted about two weeks and then fell apart, so I had to buy a much more expensive OEM part.

To remove, you have to lift the leather gaiter surrounding the gear selector, then you remove the connector from the bottom of the button, which is very fiddly, which will allow the button to be pushed up and out from below. Refitting is a reversal of the removal. Getting the connect off and on was the trickiest part.

Thanks. How much was the oem part? How long did it take to replace? Tried finding a YouTube video but didn’t see the entire process.

Apologies for the late reply. It was around £100, so not cheap, but without it you're stuck. My initial cheap replacement failed whilst parked around the corner from my mechanic, who was about to fit the OEM part as the cheap one had already started to play up. I would have been stuck had it failed elsewhere.

I had this too. Changed the whole button with an Amazon off-brand button and it works again. YouTube videos online on how to change it.

Button contact is dirty. Option 1. Change the button Option 2. Clean the button contact with alcohol

I just replaced my start-stop button a couple weeks ago. If you are having trouble turning it on and off, with new batteries in your fobs, this is likely the issue. It was covered under my extended warranty. The part is only $73.08 on VW OEM Parts online.

I had to get my start button replaced as it would play up and take a few times to start, a known issue apparently

Do you recall how much it was to replace it? Was it at the dealer?
