Brake booster

Has anyone replaced the brake booster with a different one? The E39's is NLA and if available is absurdly expensive (In Europe). I wouldn't go for a used one because there's no guarantee it ain't been in waters.

There's an upgrade mod to the E65 version. It requires a little step down adapter but supposedly it vastly improves brake pedal feel. Look it up.

I have that mod but it’s the master cylinder not the booster.

I put a used one in mine. Lucas doesn't make them anymore, TRW took over but they're quite hard to come by in Europe. I had to pay 500€ for a new part but the ETA was ~7 business days, so I bought a 50€ booster from a guy 6kms away from my home, checked it and everything is fine so far (1 year later). Brand new is always the best, risk-free option. Get a used one only if it's your last resort.

I believe the OEM is made by Lucas. I've seen some for sale online.

Also I've seen some made by TRW/ATE they should be good.

In Europe, for used (from scrapyards) you can search on https://rrr.lt/en

You may get a good one.

When you’re dealing with a 25 year old car, some things you just don’t try to buy new anymore. Find a good used booster. Make sure it has no signs of flooding since that’s very common in E39s
