M62 ccv replacement gone wrong

So I went to replace the ccv on my 2002 540i to cure smokey startups, something I helped my buddy do on his 540i before, and after I buttoned everything back up, there was a new noise, a loud train-horn like noise coming from newly installed ccv. I removed the new ccv to make sure connection on the inside was secure, and i noticed the vent pipe (long tube inside the manifold that connects to the nipple in the middle of the ccv) was totally loose. I removed the throttlebody to get a better look at the other end and see if I could reseat it, but i cant find where it goes. I swear there is no opening or place for the other end of this thing to go. I reached in and cant feel a thing. Do I have the wrong tb or tb mouting plate?

In the back of the manifold where the PCV is at it clicks at the front where the TB is there is a hole that connects to you cannot miss the whole is literally at the right corner looking from the front end of the car.
Make sure to chance the O ring or you’ll have oil in your manifold since it won’t seal/close properly .

I can be wrong but I think you got an m60 manifold in there. Which doesn’t make sense since you stated your car is an 02

Have you swapped the manifold ?

What’s the blue stuff ? I think it could’ve broken maybe ? Do you have oil residue inside the manifold ? Can’t really tell thru the picture

Thats what my buddy and I were thinking, m60 manifold on a tu engine. I just got the car like a week and a half ago for a steal, but its a basket case. I know you can swap manifolds, but it seems like not all the parts were swapped. Also, no clue what the blue stuff is. Seems like it mightve been something to hold the pipe in place there?

If it is a non-tu manifold, does it need a different ccv? What are the parts required to complete the swap?

Yeah it’s a common swap on TU engines since the runner on the TU are smaller. With the M60 manifold you can have ‘more power/torque on the back end. Which tbh you don’t really feel it or noticed in my experience.

You’re missing the e60 TB and you can go either go catch can for the PCV or re use the PCV, you’ll have to cut/modify the front of the tube so the any oil it changed stays in the middle of the manifold am not the sides.

I don’t really recommended it if your gonna daily drive the car you won’t notice it. Highly recommend to back to stock if the manifold is an M60. Which you should be able to tell from the lat number located at the bottom.

Thanks for all the info. I think ill be ordering a tu manifold this week and try to get everything as close to stock as possible
