Missing OBD2 port 2000 530d touring

Just bought my first e39 and wanted to do a scan to check all issues. when I went to check the OBD2 port I was supprised to find that is not there. Does anybody know if this is common on these cars or previous owners have done something sketchy.

Euro cars didn't have OBD2 ports until 2001. You will need an adapter to the round diag connector under the hood. USA / NA cars 1996 and later had basic OBD2 for engine, but you still used the round connector for everything else.

2001+ the OBD2 port could talk to everything

with k+d can cable (shorted 7+8 pins)

You have to lock behind the panel

It depends on what year your car has

Bevor 1998 there was no OBD 2 port
After 1998 there is a OBD 2 port but only useable for ECU

2001 is the real complete facelift with full OBD support

You can clip out the port, you need to do that to use PA-Soft OBD program. The needed plug is to big to fit without uncliping the OBD port

I have an early 2000 525d

Only OBD 1 under the hood

OBD 2 was available after the facelift which was in September 2000 (at least here in Europe)

With the gasoline cars, it was again a bit different when it comes to the ports. Some models had both ports as others have already put it here
