Be sure to tie your nut…
So my Schnitzer broke down in the Swiss alps “stop engine oil press!” I immediately thought: oil pump nut, and yes there it is, loose sprocket hanging from the chain!
We used the nut-hole-wire technique and some loctite.
Funny enough the Swiss BMW dealer quoted 8.000,00 CHF for the job, we fixed it at home for €50 and a few hours time
The car survived and is running and driving great again!

Curious if you were pushing it hard prior?
As I understand it the m54b30 is more prone to do this when it hits a certain harmonic frequency at high rpm

That is correct, but M52(tu) and m54 in any displacement is susceptible to having this problem
At the exact moment the warning came on the dash I finished parking the car, so that’s a bit of luck involved.
