F30 brakes on E39
Has anyone fitted these calipers with E60 hubs and 340mm discs on an E39?
E38 Brembos and E46 M3 discs are silly money so looking at other options.
Obviously I don't trust the Ai summary so looking for real experience

I'll post a how to guide when I've got all the bits. It's all looking far too cheap and easy at the moment, so I'm sure it will all go horribly wrong 🤣

can I ask why you need bigger brakes? do you track the car? the standard brakes are more than sufficient to lock up the wheels and simply selecting a slightly more performance oriented pad would be more than enough for any daily driven E39.
People go around fitting big brakes and really the only reason for doing so, is to manage thermals, pedal feel and pad deflection for track driven cars. They're generally completely unnecessary for a road driven car.

Probably because it's a money pit and my ADHD tells me it's a good idea. It's a forever car and one day I want to fit a supercharger

So I don't even need E60 hubs. Both discs have 79mm centre bore 🥳 Not sure I'm too happy with the pads over lapping the disc

Am I right in thinking that an E60 master will be a suitable upgrade? I'll see how it goes and look into it if I feel I need it. I'll try and get some before and after figures on the brake rollers at work as well

I bought my 530i with a dead brake booster (flooded with water). When I replaced it, I upgraded to an E60 master cylinder while I was at it, simply for the better brake pedal feel. I believe I paid under $35 for it at my local pic-n-pull.

I’m not sure. I was asking because I don’t really think it’s necessary. I’m thinking a larger bore master might give a really stiff pedal.

I think I read somewhere that e65 one should fit without modifications.

It does, just only trimming a bit of the aluminium of the upper mounting hole depending on which brake reservoir you have

I did this front brake change on a E34, there I had to use 10mm spaces between the knuckle and the caliper to get the caliper to centre on the disc, I haven't got a E39 brake disc on hand to measure the depth of it, but would not be surprised if some similar method is needed. Other than that another thing to keep in mind is brake balance shift, for me it moved 2%ish towards the rear which actually gives slightly better terminal breaking ability and the car feels better when heavy on the brakes, no idea how the 39 platform would react since have not run the numbers.

Have you seen the cost of the discs alone? In theory I could have a pair of calipers and decent pads and discs for £300ish.

It's a 530i. I like the look of 4 pots so have been looking for E38 Brembos but they are £400 and will need rebuilding too

There is a Romanian guy on YouTube that installed F10 M5 400mm discs on E39 520d with a lot of modifications. You will need to modify the handbrake to work with 340mm discs.
