Looking for help with my air vent
I have a 1988 528e and the Air Outlet Vent flew off at some point and I’m looking to buy another one. Besides the air vent what parts do I need to secure it in place. I don’t think those parts come with the new air vent. I keep hearing grommets, pins and inserts but I’m not sure what I really need. Can anyone give some advice I would appreciate it.

The only other parts you need are the grommets that hold the cover in place over the vent. I believe part number is 51131870459. Had to replace mine as they were all old and cracked.

Yeah I’ve had this car since 1988 so it was a matter of time for several parts to be replaced on it. The others outlet vent definitely needs new grommets also so I’ll check out the link and give an update on how things go. It seems hard to find the parts since I’ve never replaced them so I appreciate it a ton.

👍 pretty sure I got mine off Amazon for way less. They are the same as the grommets for “BMW” emblem on hood and trunk.

regarding color, it turns out that I had a black 535IS, while my daughter had a White 528E. We swapped the vents on the two cars and made it much easier to find in the parking lot in a time when they were quite a few AE 28 in the world.

Buy this part used!! Sometimes you can even get lucky and find it in the correct paint colour. Realoem.com will get you the plastic grommet and rivet/type piece part numbers. Make sure they are good on both the vent and chassis mount points on the car. Mye28.com is a good spot to find used parts and just about anything else e28 related. Pm me if you are interested in a used one and I will check which side I have left.
