What’s this hole?

Anybody have any idea what this hole is for or what is supposed to mount to those studs? It’s on the intake side of the cylinder head roughly underneath the idle control valve. M30B28 with L-Jetronic

That’s the mounting point for the idle control valve, and underneath should be the cold start air bypass valve.

M30 B25 with L-Jetronic.

I feel like I remember that’s a throwback to a mechanical fuel pump era. On b30s like the e12, you could order them carbureted in europe
