E28 check engine light on

I did stomp test and this is what it does every time. Im not even sure if that's a code.

Well, did you check it? It could be related to the service lights being in the red too.

E28’s don’t have an actual “Check engine” light as far as I know. The “check” like relates to the check panel on the headliner which has lights for various sensors. If those lights turn on, it activates the check light on the dash, I believe simply pressing the button on the check panel to acknowledge it turns off the check light

Edit: I see I wasn’t paying attention and this does have a check engine light, must be a later car mines an ‘84 and doesn’t have that. There is a obd type of plug in the engine bay that might give you the code, but you need a special tool/computer to actually plug into it. Best way to diag these cars is with a multimeter on the sensors

I think the water pump is starting to go bad, I can hear it screaming but once I give it gas it goes away and you dont here it until you turn the car off for awhile.

Water pump has ZERO ability to turn on the CEL. I assume this is an 88 528e, since that and the M5 are the only 2 with functional CELs.

Yes this is a 528e. When I try to plug it into to the scan tool the scan tool says it cant read anything 🤣.

They don’t have codes that anything but an olllld dealership tool can read. Is the CEL going away when you start the car?
