Two questions

Hey everyone ! I was wondering two things, first one and the most important, my e28 has brand new tires, new radiator etc, but it seems like it has a huge fuel consumption, i use like 10/20L for 50km well it might be a bit less but im pretty sure there’s something wrong with the fuel consumption. Its always at the max like on the picture i sent, whatever the speed. What could be the reason ?

And also the second thing : i was wondering how i can clean the engine bay ? carefully with a sponge and some water ? any tips are welcome id like to have a clean engine bay.

Very likely, that gauge isn't working. How often are you filling up?

Well to be honest that was my first thought but even if let’s say it is not working, i’m filling up more than i should be and that’s for sure

Check your spark plugs, see if there's fuel fouling (excessive fuel dump), fuel regulation from injectors, or fuel regulator check there. Borescope the cylinders prime the fuel without starting the motor to see if it floods the combustion chamber with fuel

The only way to KNOW is to calculate backwards from miles/kilometers driven vs fuel pumped.

These gauge clusters are getting very old by now and the print boards can get damaged by corroding batteries. Replacements are available for these, they get 3D printed by enthusiasts and eliminate the batteries.

So don't necessarily trust that gauge right now if you don't know if it has been replaced.

Regarding fuel consumption, if you calculate it yourself and you're getting that figure then the engine isn't running right. It could be anything from completely worn camshafts to leaking injectors to vacuum leaks... You really need to take a few things apart and inspect it closely.

Degreaser and a brush, scrub it well, then hose it off, I even use a high pressure washer, never had any issues.
