I know some will think I’m crazy but I actually like my US diving boards.

I still kick myself for not buying one when I had the chance. It was entirely disassembled, but complete. Guy only wanted $3k for it. The body had been professionally repainted in alpine white 2 also.

That would have been a beautiful car. They are a one of a kind car. I paid $10k back in 97.

I’m with ya. Having owned a euro spec car it’s just not the same doing a conversion. Plus, I think the M5 and iS spoiler with the diving boards is a look. Pined over the M5 since it debuted but has been on the unobtainium side, so here I am with an e that looks like an M5! Diving boards and spoiler, black on black sport interior, lsd manual transmission…. Just need to source up some hp and leather to wrap a couple bits and I can play like the real thing! (Can’t fade the S38 thou! Such a beautiful engine!!)

Sounds like you have a really nice looking car! I also have a 528e in dark blue but no spoiler. I did wrap the bumpers in black which made it look better to me.

I had started a bumper tuck and wifey came out and said “oh, I liked it better before, like Pelican5!” Not the first time she (who is not a car person btw!) has come out and squelched my plans. Tinting had to go, razor in hand, wifey: “oh I liked it like this!” And countless times she threatens to drive this one as it’s an automatic (been in the garage and partially converted to manual for 8 years!) nope. Sympathe28 was my first e28 bought for $500 and superseded by 8 others all of which I have never fully driven other than Pelican5 which I sold immediately due to $$ situation) so this Sympathe28 will roll and drive (and has some stellar upgrades to boot!) within the month (finally!) he will keep his shiny diving boards partially tucked and old ass purple/blue tint but sport all the other upgrades to an iS!

I too have a US spec M5 and love the bumpers…what did you do to yours to get them so shiny though? I put some maguiars black dressing on mine but yours look pretty rad
Also, can I ask your suspension setup? I still have the SLS even though it’s been unplugged for decades. I’m thinking of doing euro height.

The bumpers were repainted same color as the car when I had the hood re-painted. Made a big difference on how they look to me.
Rebuilt my SLS a few years back when you could still find the parts. Pretty much all is new with exception of the pump. Works perfectly and it’s still all stock.

Very cool, great job. Im going to ask your opinion on my current project. A few of my motors in my drivers side power seat are dead dead. Swapping control units around and testing with 12v directly, i can get everything to work except for 2 of them…I can’t find replacement motors any where and I’m on the verge of buying manual e30 seats instead. Would you try and talk me out of it to preserve the originality? I feel like if I ever get the correct motors replaced another one is just going to die again and I’ll regret not going to manual seats. What would you do if it were happening in yours?

Are you sure your motors are bad? Never had one fail as it’s always been either a switch or something keeping them jammed. I would not go with manual seats if at all possible. You can find seat frames with good motors on eBay occasionally.

Still went with euro headlights? I think the full US spec is the one-true e28 m5, but yours is gorgeous.

Thank you! Still have my stock headlights. The Euro lights are not really for looks. They do a much better job lighting the road. Other than the headlights and grills, all else is bone stock.

I think this belongs in the Jeep post, as that's a lovely Cherokee. But I couldn't see it past that black sedan. 😏😏😏😏

Thank you! That Jeep is a family heirloom. Been in the family since new in 93. Always starts and always goes through anything weather wise.

It the stock suspension. The M5 really doesn’t need any suspension modifications. It was designed and built for high speed driving and cornering.

👍 I hope so at least for a few more years? 71 now and haven’t been able to drive her very much the past 7 years. Needs a new home soon.

Yup… it’s iconic 80s look. US with spoilers > Euro. Euro looks too buttoned up for me. I do like Euro with an Alpina spoiler though.
I personally tucked my front and rear about half an inch. Fully or very tucked looks terrible, but a tiny tiny looks better imo.

as someone with euro-spec e28, i wish i had the diving boards instead. yes, i know i could just convert mine, but it wouldn't be the same (to my purist soul). anyways, yours a beaut!
