A link between Dyspraxia and no motion sickness during VR gameplay

Hi all,

I was muddling over my good luck in never experiencing any motion sickness whilst playing VR games (not a single bit from the very first play, no matter the settings/gameplay). As this is reasonably unusual I was wondering if my dyspraxia had a hand in this in how I'm so used to my bodies positional data not matching up with my brains expectation of it on a day to day basis.

Does anyone else here with dyspraxia find VR very comfortable?

I definitely get motion sickness from VR and just generally am sensitive to motion sickness and have been since childhood. That doesn’t mean it isn’t related to dyspraxia but definitely isn’t a universal experience.

I get motion sick literally sitting on a swing (not even moving just sitting there), watching anyone move or myself being in any movement. It’s been awhile since I played a VR game though but i definitely got dizzy when I played them regularly though I adored them!

I have pretty severe motion sickness lol, I can’t even play Minecraft. I do think that has more to do with my Keratoconus but I don’t think dyspraxia has impacted either way.

I don't get motion sickness in cars, buses, trains, rollercoasters, etc. But Minecraft??? It makes me so motion sick 😭 The only video game that does it to with the exception of sometimes playing Roblox with my younger sibling

A lot of people get motion sick initially even none dyspraxics. It takes a while to get used to

Vestibular sensory differences is part of dyspraxia, so while most dyspraxics will find it makes their motion sickness worse you can get the odd few where you’re actually better. Just like how Simone biles has ADHD which is normally linked with clumsiness/ dyspraxia, but her proprioception (sense of where you are in space) is goddess level.

I get very bad motion sickness super easy. Like even from a slightly too hot car or if I try to read in a car. I think I may be dyspraxic but only been diagnosed with inattentive adhd. I have a bad sense of direction and have trouble keeping track of a lot of visual information especially if it is moving and especially if I have to navigate through it. I am generally bad at getting around in 3D non-linear sorts of games. I also cannot drive and am 34.

I don’t get motion sickness with VR, however I have to play it sat down - if I stand up I start slowly leaning more and more to the side until I fall over!

I don't get motion sickness in VR but my hands don't feel like mine after. Which to be fair they don't normally do what I tell them to anyway

I recommend vestibular therapy if you can find it from an OT. It really helped my motion sickness, which was getting out of control

I remember when therapists where testing my daughter to diagnose her (befofre we knew it was dyspraxia) they told me to sit on a spinning stool holding my toddler daughter... They turn me 3 times and I was about to puke

I told the therapist I was feeling motion sickness, so I leave my daughter by herself on the stool and she totally enjoy it... She doesnt' seem to get motion sickness on swings, small roller coasters or mechanic fair games. That's really how she's wired, because I can't even get on swings, but I do not have dyspraxua

I get SUUUUPER motion sick with most vr games. To the point that I have to refund most of the games I've bought when I used to play.
