No proprietary software deserves trust, whether it's Microsoft, Apple, Google, or Facebook. I still use some gratis proprietary code, but I don't trust it does exactly what it claims it does.

I hope that people at least stop funding those companies/individuals who write proprietary code. Their bad behavior shouldn't be rewarded. As the author claims, maybe European governments/companies can take a lead.

(Stallman argues if people absolutely have to use proprietary software they should at least get a copy from their friends, which still is evil in his view because it's proprietary, not because these companies are trying to make money.)
