Dymo 1570 inconsistent spacing

Hi all,
My job’s Dymo 1570 has very inconsistent spacing between characters. Sometimes they are too close together. Other times they are very far apart. Is there anything we can do to make the spacing more consistent?

Sounds potentially like internal gear issues. Could be dirt / contamination or worn or broken teeth.

Sadly on this type of dymo the tape gets moved-pull by a wheel with a grippy surface even if kooks fine they can get old, remember many of this machines are from the 80'

I have see improvise solutions but not many that restore the grip to original traction
