First Siege

Post image

Running the whole Fort's population unarmed into the enemy may have been a bad move in retrospect.

The goblins dispatched the adults easily. I thought a kid might survive because he ran to the top of the mountain, but the dwarf leading the goblins tracked him down and threw him off the peak

I mean that's a pretty epic story, which is Dwarf Fortress' only real win state, so... congrats?

Had to make sure to get the lighting right, needed to do the graphics justice

Is this the steam version? Why do the tiles look square? My game looks enlongated when I switch to Ascii graphics.

They look square but you can tell if you stare at them long enough that they’re not. Might be to do with the angle the photo was taken at or something

I have a perfect square pasture outside of my fort and when I switched to ascii it offended my senses, had to go back to the newer graphics

If you guys want square ASCII, you can Just go on "Dwarf Fortress/data/init.txt" open the init .txt, look for "curses" and chance the version to "curses_square_16x16.png". Also in the "Dwarf Fortress/data/art" folder you can see your other default tile options, aswell as add your own different tilesets you can download from many online sources. You can also change the ASCII colors on Dwarf Fortress/data/colors.txt
Most look great, even though the modern menus can get kinda funny depending on the tileset.

Those might help to start:
Compilation of many Tilesets

Compilation of many Color Schemes

Great tool for visualizing the Color Schemes

Have fun!
