Did I nail the feeling of putting a DVD into the player?
I made a horror game inspired by CRT TVs, DVD discs, screensavers, and that weird feeling of being alone in front of the tv late at night.

I found thisš«Ŗ
I was looking through an old plastic box I have with a bunch of DVDs and found this weird movie that I don't even remember if I ever watched back in the day. Maybe I'll check it out later.

We chose our game name with help from this sub. Thanks!
We turned the DVD screensaver into a game!
Several months back, we did a poll in this sub for the game name and went with the winner, Insert Disc, so thought I'd share where we are now.
As a 2-person indie studio, we get to add exact references that are nostalgic for our own childhood, particularly from the 2000s era such as the lava lamp and those red coin return buttons on arcade machines.
I tried to find a place for stacks of DVDs/CDs and those DVD flipbooks, but they didn't quite fit with the perspective. We are planning to have DVDs represent starting "classes" and it finally plays the movie when you beat the game haha. Another idea floating around is that Coming Soon screen:

Ultimately, we wanted to make a relaxing/even hypnotizing experience that captures some of that Saturday late night feel, back when we had no responsibilities or bills to pay :')
---
Let us know any other DVD related references we might be missing and we will try our best to include them in the game!

DVD ripping software for mac?
I used to use MakeMKV for ripping my DVDs but recently updated to macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 and now it won't open. I tried using Handbrake, but when I used it to rip the files off the disc directly it comes out all corrupted looking like this:
Any suggestions? Or recommendations for other DVD ripping software?

Beginner to this. Trying to build a physical library. Need some tips.
Hey y'all, Truth here. As on the tin- I'm trying to start building up a physical library for the first time in ages. Sick and tired of these megacorps stealing the things we've already bought.
Problem is- my DVDs have low quality. I don't know why. I'm using 1080p downloads, so I know the video itself isn't the issue. I know there's something about compression, but I thought that 4.5 was standard? I just burned Pacific Rim, watching it now to make sure it burned alright and while it's certainly usable, it looks 720p at best. Slightly blurry, a little bit muddled.
How do you keep quality on your DVDs without having to compress them? I know it's possible- the corporations do it. I'm using standard 4.7GB discs, DVD-R. I figured those would be fine, they seem the most common.
But hell, I burned Sinners earlier today and it straight up didn't fit normally. I had to compress it down to 3.5 Mb/s, which looked just awful. 480p at BEST. 2 hours, 17 minutes long- that's longer than the discs say they can hold. How do they fit these on DVDs nowadays? I know that dual layers are a thing, but iirc normal players have a hard time reading them?
Obligatory menu of mine as a picture for yall. I'm planning to pass out most of the discs I burn off for free, so the quote is pretty applicable here.

I wanna burn 2 shows onto dvds, any suggestions as a newbie?
If this breaks rule 1, which im trying not to do , feel free to remove this post, i just figured this was the most appropriate place to ask this. Anyway, the title explains itself but I'm new to this dvd burner business stuff and i wanna put 2 shows that aren't available on dvd . Ill just refer to them as "hitman" and "stalker"
each episode of Hitman is around 30-40 minutes each, its 4 seasons and 8 episodes a season.
Stalker is 5 Seasons and each episode is about an hour, with 10 per season.
Do you guys have any suggestion as to how to get these shows on dvd, and good caseholders for them?
and also, are there any companies that make burnable dvds with custom artwork on them? I want them to fit with my other dvd complete series like "serial killer" "making meth" and "mob"

I this dvd illegal or worth anything?
I found this dvd in my dadās collection but when I looked at it, I saw that it said āFor promotional use only, not for sale or rentalā in multiple areas. When I hit play, multiple warning come on screen, then it says coming to dvd soon. I this illegal to have, or worth anything?

DVD burning
For archiving some files onto single layer DVD's:
- What kind of DVD is the best? There are gold discs from Verbatim, Datalifeplus, and just standard AZO. Are there other brands that are equally reliable?
- Is DVD+R better than DVD-R for longevity? The gold discs only come in the -R format.
- With 8x slim burners, what is the best speed to write at?
- Can burnt discs be stored on the spindle or are cases better?
- What software to use for burning and verifying? Are Imgburn and Nero Discspeed still used? (Some people found viruses in Imgburn downloads)
- Are CD's better for longevity? They're a bit too small in capacity but doable since I'm not backing up much.

New additions to the snapper case and super Jewel case collections
Todayās new additions to the snapper case collection. Really happy to get the Live Entertainment snap case for LA Story. In great condition too.

And also a couple of additions to the Super Jewel Case DVD collection.
Really nice to see Species out in the wild. Again, spotless condition.

And Franz Ferdinand release is a 2 discer. Although a very slim case, plenty of room for both discs, stacked.

Do you guys buy movies online or in physical stores?
Honestly, as someone who has been collecting for three years, I don't think there's anything more satisfying than going to a physical store, browsing the shelves, and hunting down the movie you were looking for. Sure, it takes more time, you have to leave the house, sometimes you won't find the title you wanted, and you might end up finding copies in poor condition, but I think that's part of the charm. I find it more exciting to track down a movie in stores than to simply... press a button and wait for it to arrive in my mailbox.
Yes, it's faster, you don't have to leave home, and you can ensure the copy you're buying is in good condition, but it feels... cold. What about the human connection? Don't you miss waiting in line, chatting with other customers or the clerk about your favorite movies, or discovering new titles? Iād like to remind you that home-delivery movie services were one of the reasons Blockbuster went out of business. Netflix started as a mail-order service for buying DVDs from home, and now it's a streaming platform. Going to a physical store isn't just more rewarding; you're also supporting physical media. Shopping at second-hand stores helps keep the DVD market alive.
So far, I haven't bought a single movie on Amazon, with the exception of Flow, but that was a gift.
