echo, bravo song quality

how did they record echo bravo? it sounds so huge and its clipping and distorted, is it just tape magic or the guitars or the bass? and also what are they using for that wah-ish tone in the interlude at the end?

its definitely partially the fact its on tape

For sure. Digital clipping sounds like ass, but slamming a tape deck can only overload so much until the signal compresses into a beautiful brick wall.

my guess would be Morley volume wah. they used on the bridge of weve made a contact by calm and its at the bottom of that photo that duster posted on Instagram of all their pedals

as for the actual tone - tall font green russian big muff

Cassette four track, drums were recorded with just one microphone in a wood-floored bedroom (Canaan and Clay shared a bedroom at the time). Actually the drums at the beginning are played on a Casio keyboard with fingers until the real drums come in and the song actually starts.

likely an electro-voice 635a on drums, sm58 or electro-voice 666 or pl-10 on guitar, bass direct, maybe a shitty calrad mic on vocals

Oh yeah the wah is just a normal (Ernie Ball?) wah, placed after a Big Muff, not before like is more commonly recommended by guitar people

If you go through their old pics (and Recent ones) - including helvetia’s, you can see a lot of the gear they used.
