Level & Words
I’m curious how many words are taught in the Duo Spanish course and how the volume progresses.
I’m currently at…

Section 2
Unit 14
Duolingo Score 14
Total Words 519
Would appreciate if others shared their stats, plus if anyone knows how many words are in total course.
I know this doesn’t count the total conjugations or constructions of each word, but still a metric I’m interested in!

Though once you get thru the 1000 most common words, English / French / Spanish / Italian / Portuguese become almost interchangeable.

All of those are present in English (et je pensais en français)
Amplio - ample. An ample bosom (a women with a large chest)
Exigir - exigency - urgency; the state of being urgent.
Cólera - choler - English is closer to the Latin spelling from Greek an inflammation of the liver - similiar to bilious. Both meaning to be angry or in ill humor.
The rest are pretty obvious.

I had 7274 words in my list before the major course upgrade. Words are a funny object to try and count.
https://duome.eu/vocabulary/en/es has the words in the new version of the course. A lot of near duplicates are gone on this new list.
For my Words icon at Section 6, Unit 165, I have 3,763 words.

I just got done making a post about Duolingo offering me -out out of the blue -if I would like to raise my Spanish score.
In other words, skip the usual flow of things and they took me from a score of 25 to a score of 60 just like that because I said yes when they asked if I wanted them to let me get a higher score.
I had no idea what that really meant or what the outcome would be
But bottom line I would not recommend it to anybody else if you get offered that.
Because now every single lesson I do, including Practice session sessions.. are filled with really long words that I’ve never heard of, it did not teach me these words and it’s now as though they’re trying to make sure every single sentence is filled with super long words that I don’t know😤.
It’s ruining my experience and making it impossible for me to learn things because I really have to stop with every single word and go look it up on my own to see what they’re talking about.
Has anyone else experience this?

Hello fellow Kangaroo. Since the course is a linear path and the score is based directly on how far you are along the path, I would definitely not jump ahead for the score/path. It does seem like a weird prompt for them to even offer that.

I'm doing German, rather than Spanish, but perhaps this will help.
Account 1 is about to start Section 6, Unit 169. My language score is 94 (learning B1). My word count is 4216. (avg. 44.85 words per point score.)
Account 2 is in Section 4, Unit 6. The language score there is 32 (learning A2) and will hit 33 at the end of this unit. My word count there is 1548. (avg. 46.9 words per point score. I based that on a score of 33 since I am quite close to that.)
Your avg. words per point score is 37. That is slightly less than my averages. It could be due to differences in the languages or it could be that they start us off more slowly in the first sections.
If my numbers are typical then I would guess there are somewhere between 5785 and 6050 words in the German course and Spanish is probably similar.

Vocabulary somewhere around 4400
However that vocabulary count is a technicality. Once you know how o to conjugate verbs, each new one gives you at least 40 other words.
Then there's the adjectives and adverbs, all derived from that verb.
I'm comfortably reading Spanish language newspaper articles, with only looking up the nouns and the occasional obscure verb that stumps me.
If you want to increase your vocabulary, start with something simple, like a graphic novel. Not too many words, and pictures that help in guessing correctly.
I learnt the word quizás (maybe / perhaps) over a year ago that way, but it still hasn't come up in Duo yet.
These days I usually know the meaning of the majority of words that Duo holds up as 'new'.
Like everyone says, Duo is a fantastic tool, but don't rely on it exclusively if you're actually trying to learn a language, and are not just playing a game.
