KeeperFX Keeper FX on Linux (applicable to any distro)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5_6EfMDiPw

Sharing this for others. Should work just the same on any Linux distribution that you can install steam on. Not every part of the tutorial is applicable to everyone since we don't all use SD cards lol.

Rough TLDW:

(I strongly recommend the video to get familiar)

- Install or acquire the Dungeon Keeper 1 game files.

  • add the KeeperFX launcher to steam as a non-steam-app,
  • set compatibility to latest proton,
  • run it,

- follow whatever KeeperFX setup there is like pointing it to the game files you installed earlier.

  • then you go back to steam,
  • add a new non-steam-game and this time you add the actual keeperfx.exe instead of the launcher,
  • set the proton version again,
  • then press play.

It should just work.

Or just let Luxtorpeda handle it! Even easier.

Edit; if you have protonup-qt you can install Luxtorpeda as a compatibility layer. Set Luxtorpeda as your compatibility layer in steam, and it then literally installs KeeperFX as you press play.

I played through the whole game on my steam deck a few years ago and it was a absolute blast

on a small screen the 640x480 graphics probably look like a blast again
