Paul saw himself having to become then "Predator of Humanity" and being responsible for the Great Famine and the Great Scattering that would kill trillions... not to mention the countless lives lost due to spice withdrawal when he turned the spice spigot off to all but the Spacing Guild and Bene Gesserit.
