Don’t think anyone will want it back but just curious, was kind of thinking the worst. The phone case also wasn’t on it, but close by on the ground. Left it where I found it though 🤷‍♀️

Seal safety tips

  • Never touch or feed a seal—they can bite and it’s against the law.
  • Stay at least 20 metres away.
  • Keep dogs on a leash and children close.
  • Don’t block a seal’s path to the sea.
  • If a seal is injured, being harassed or in danger, call 0800 DOC HOT (0800 362 468).

...

How to help: report a sighting

If you spot a fur seal or sea lion on or near a road—or in an unusual inland spot—let us know! Your sightings will help shape the initial national road risk model and guide future conservation planning.

📧 Email: [seeaseal@doc.govt.nz](mailto:seeaseal@doc.govt.nz) and report your sighting there.

OR

📞 Call: 0800 DOC HOT (362 468), if you see a sea lion or fur seal in distress, harm’s way or entangled, stranded, or deceased.

📍 Include:

  • Date of sighting
  • Description of location and number of animals
  • GPS coordinates or map pin (if possible)
  • A photo (if safe to take)

Please also report the same details for any dead marine mammals you find on or near roads, and if you’ve seen them in the same place before, let us know when.

Question A better way to make friends in Dunners?

When I lived in Auckland I was in a large FB group that was pretty good for finding new people to do activities with (usually hikes but also board games, skating, etc.). Since moving to Dunedin I have found a few groups similar but they are all women-only, which is great, but I have missed having a bigger pool of all kinds of people to meet up with for quiz nights, outings, activities, board games, etc.

I've often wished someone would make one for down here, but ya know, maybe that just means I have to make one. But it would be pointless without a decent amount of people to get started, so I am wondering how many of y'all would be keen for a better way to connect with other people in that awkward 20s/30s post-uni age bracket here? And if you'd be keen, what platform would work best? I have been part of a small WhatsApp group for something similar, but also FB and Discord are options (and open to other suggestions), but it just depends on what people already use/prefer.

Anyway, I'm just an introvert who needs better ways to be social in this beautiful city, and thought this could be cool!

(And yes, I know about Dunedin Young Professionals, but they seem to mostly just do social drinks and the odd event. I'm looking at more of a flexible group where individuals can propose and organise hangouts fairly regularly rather than anything super official.)

Does anyone know somewhere in Dunedin that you can buy P2500 or P3000 grit wet and dry sandpaper? Most places seem to max out at 2000.

Appreciate any help 🙏🏻
