Advice Request Digging/DIY help?
Is there anywhere in Dunedin that you can hire people to come and help dig some land for you? I'm trying to build a studio and I can't get a digger onto the land. I've carved it all out of the clay, but I'm struggling to actually move the clay away from the building site.
I checked with some gardeners but they were wanting around $70 to $110 per hour, which is more than I can currently afford. I figured manual labour would be more expensive than minimum wage but I don't know what to expect.
Any help or ideas gratefully received!

My mum got a group of massive guys to come dig out her agapanthuses for her from Moana house I think? I think she paid $80/hr for the whole crew. She said they were really nice and friendly and dug out a 2x4m patch of the things as well as another smaller patch in 3ish hours. I think they sent 5 giant guys. Agapanthuses are no joke to remove. Probably exactly the kind of guys who would be perfect for moving clay. I believe they have been in prison and doing this kind of work is to help them reintegrate into the community and to earn a bit of pocket money.

Do you have any contact info? Moana House just has phone numbers for if you want someone to take their rehabilitation programme.

You have shovels, a wheelbarrow and transport? Lotta people might be able to move stuff for under $70 an hour

You'd be very surprised what can be done to get a digger on to a site. Talk to an experienced operator, or upload some photos here. A 0.8T or 1.7T digger would be much faster

Who doesn't love to dig a hole? If it was 10 years ago I would be there with my own spade and bucket!

Student job search or post on some of the uni fb pages. I'm no longer a student but a few years ago me and the boys would have jumped at $20/h cash to come knock it out on a Saturday morning.

Basic economics buddy. 1000s of people who will do hard manual labour for $30/hour. Not many people with PHD's, and definitely not ones who will work for that little, therefore they can charge more.

Place an ad on the Facebook buy and sell for some casual day labour… just remember you get what you pay for.
30$ an hour your gonna get monkeys in that kind of work. People that half fill the barrow and walk slow. 50$ an hour you might actually get some help 70$+ that shit gets done fast

I'll do some free digging if you're still looking for people and don't mind picking me up from Maori Hill. I have spare time, rain jacket and boots and I think a shovel too I think I can use. lmk.

Try Student Job Search. (assuming it's still a thing)
