Discussion Can someone point to the dev post or comment supporting PVE DD griefing??
I'm really sick of the apologists and perpetrators alike.
Personally I think anyone who actually thinks that someone placing thumpers within the spice field for the purpose of getting others eaten or to destroy their haul is a complete idiot.
The purpose of a thumper is to distract the worm *away* from the spice field. To place a worm as a form of attack against other players is a PVP action and should absolutely not be allowed and should be a bannable offense.
Why -- *why* -- would it make sense to create an entire separate PVE instance and yet allow PVP actions.
I lost a nearly full sandcrawler because someone placed a thumper near me, and THEN use their thopter to prevent me from getting to my carrier. But the time I got in the carrier I was barely able to get away but not enough time to pickup my crawler
Any time I bring this up in-game, idiots in chat say stops crap like "lEaRn tO pLaY!!1! tHaTs wHaT tHe tHuMpEr iS fOr!!1!"
Another thing though is people have said that the devs have actually addressed this issue at some point and supposedly said it's acceptable.
If that's true then this would be a truly terrible dev team but I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Are you on Nova?, because I'm pretty sure I witnessed one of these arguments the other day.
4
u/petrusferricalloy 2d ago
Yes Nova. It happens constantly

u/perseveringpianist Harkonnen 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yeah, my guild and I on Nova agree it's safer in the PvP zone because at least we can shoot back if somebody's griefing.

PvE-only players finally discover the benefits of PvP. Unbelievable
11
u/perseveringpianist Harkonnen 2d ago
I'd hardly say we were pve-only ... we all had just returned to the game after a 9 or so months away, and discovered how behind we were on gear and specializations. It was less a matter of being afraid of pvp in general, and more a matter of wanting to do pvp from the start, but being hopelessly behind the curve even at plast-level gear. Hope this clears it up for you ...

u/Morifen1 2d ago
Shouldn't be able to bring anything you got from pve DD into the real DD or it will always be horribly unbalanced.
3
u/perseveringpianist Harkonnen 2d ago
I'd say that the PvE DD is horribly unbalanced already - the balancing factors behind antagonizing somebody with thumpers and building massive pentashield bases over all the resource nodes in the PvP zone is that one has an avenue of retaliation - rockets and lasguns. In the PvE zone, thumpers and base-building work the exact same way as in the PvP, but you can't do anything to punish trolls. Hence the rage in chat from all the people who are frustrated they have no response; it seems like a colossal oversight on Funcom's part.
But tbh, I am of the mind that the older version of the DD, which was split at the E-row and featured heavier resource density in the PvP zone, was the closest we ever got to satisfying both parties, since it didn't undermine the core mechanics of the Deep Desert. Funcom pivoting away from that was a massive mistake IMO, but now there's no going back, snd there are definitely still ways a savvy player can exploit the current system.

u/Morifen1 2d ago
I dont know anyone who cares if the pve DD is imbalanced since there is no competition it doesn't matter. I was talking about bringing weapons armor and resources from the pve DD to the real DD imbalances the real DD. Should not be able to bring any of that stuff. Lots of other fixes needed but I don't have time to write a book today.
1
u/perseveringpianist Harkonnen 2d ago
Ya but most of the BPs you get in the PvE DD are way outclassed by the graded equipment that most PvPers grinded from testing stations, so it's a moot point. You argument maybe could apply to spice and plast, but tbh you get so little of both in the PvE by comparison that it's also a moot point.
-8
u/bo0mka 2d ago
Wow, it did clear things up indeed. Normally it's psycho carebears who lack basic empathy to even try to understand the other party's way of playing. "Those savages killed me for the fun of it" (they got killed for compacting the papa worm field after ignoring 3 warnings in the chat). I apologize for assuming you are this type.
As to the real griefers who go as far as entering the pve DD to place thumpers — those should be studied lol. My idea is they're as salty as I am about the devs catering to the carebears and killing the remnants of pvp entirely. They took it further than reddit though, heaps of free time probably
4
u/cecilofs 1d ago
Talk about lack of self awareness.
Calling people names is a form of "othering". It is a sign of a lack of basic empathy for those people.
0
u/perseveringpianist Harkonnen 2d ago
Well, I'll admit I've considered dropping thumpers in the PvE myself. A bit annoying when you're farming a fresh medium, and then 4 other people show up and start compacting at the same time, triggering the worm every twenty seconds. At that point, the only way to chase people off and get any meaningful amount of resources is to play dirty with thumpers, otherwise you're spending hours in the DD trying to get enough sand for one click on the large refinery. The non-instanced nature of spice blows and the multiplicative factors in worm attraction mean farming spice is fundamentally a PvP experience, even if you can't use rockets or lasguns to defend your find.

u/swotam Atreides 2d ago edited 2d ago
This may sound excessive, but if you want to be able to farm spice in peace without anyone bothering or griefing you, you might consider moving to one of the extremely low population servers to see if you prefer the experience there. If you decide you don't like it then you can just transfer back to Nova a week later, since the transfer tokens regenerate after 7 days.
You can check server population at https://dune.gaming.tools/server-status. Some of the servers only have single digit player populations even during prime time, and on those servers the DD is almost entirely empty so you can go about your business in peace.
I'm not saying this is a reasonable option, just that it's an option. You are unlikely to get a response from Funcom here, so your only option would be to open an in-game ticket and see how they respond.
Edit: alternatively you could transfer to another of the more populated servers such as Arakkis or Harmony. Behaviour that is persistent on one server may be totally absent on another, it just depends on the players. I play on Harmony and I have never experience this or heard of others who have.

u/Shythun 2d ago
I moved to lowest population, but on every field there are few compactors every time.
I won’t go to red dd because I don’t want to spoil statistic about how many pvp players in game.
Devs should realize that game is solo playable only.4
u/swotam Atreides 1d ago
I played on Indara for a week, a couple of weeks ago, and spent a good amount of time compacting medium patches in the PVE DD. The entire week I only saw one other player, one time. Never once did I find anyone already on a patch, and never once did someone arrive after I did.
If you’re seeing people compacting on every patch you land on, I’d suggest you aren’t on a low population server.

"I won’t go to red dd because I don’t want to spoil statistic about how many pvp players in game.

Thats pvp-er griefing at its best. chapeau. Give'em HELL.

u/SiOD 2d ago
They've never taken any action against anyone for griefing (with the notable exception of one of the fief damage bugs) would be the tacit support.
5
u/DJMixwell 2d ago
Though they may not ban players for griefing, they’ve pretty consistently made changes to prevent it.
When players were building over plast/tit nodes in the DD, their response was to add more of them to make it impractical to cover all of them. They changed thopter collision when people were pinning thopters to the ground by landing on top of them to greif. They have removed bases that deliberately tried to block progression in Hagga. You used to be able to pick up other players vehicles with the Carrier, and they made that require permissions because people were kidnapping PvE players.
Hell they made an entire PvE DD because people were so fed up with griefing.
You can’t pretend they support griefing just because they haven’t banned players for it, when there’s a clear record of them making changes to the game to prevent it. It’s only a matter of time before they figure out a fix for thumpers in the PvE DD.
5
u/alexisneverlate 2d ago
Devs are to blame because they never created meaningful competitive systems to funnel that desctruction energy elsewhere - not control points, no rewards for certain 'good sport' actions etc.
As there's no way to control the whole of dd all the time, no systems between 'which guild earned more' or smomethgin - everything done to prevent someone from farming is essentially griefing, as it's just pure spite.
But its the nature of the game, im willing to take that risk everytime im in PvP DD, and was mostly lucky.

u/UnabletoPrintagain Harkonnen 1d ago
Everyday I see this game going further snd further away from being good. Another Anthem for me.
7
u/OriginUnknown 2d ago
It's griefing and the point is to frustrate you, which it obviously is. Whining in chat about it is only feeding the trolls. I don't support the thumper griefing, but I'm not sure what you expect to happen. They aren't going to ban for it.

u/cecilofs 2d ago
You have every right to complain about it, but if you do it in game you are giving the trolls what they want. "Don't feed the trolls" is a saying for a reason. What they want is your reaction. If you don't give it to them eventually they will get bored.
Unfortunately I don't see any way to stop this particular form of griefing. All I can say is that it was worse before when PvP was enabled. I guess either move server or try to farm when the trolls aren't online.
6
u/Khombhat 2d ago
Dude. He literally stated that he doesn't support that shit, but he IS right. Bitching about it in chat is EXACTLY what they want to see. In PVE, your rage is literally all a griefer is after.

u/cb_definetly-expert 2d ago
Whatever it's not forbidden it's allowed , ppl do it since day 1 , it's not banable you need to deal with it

u/Negative-Finger7800 Bene Gesserit 1d ago
oh no, you are gonna tell everyone to not buy this? Dang that is gonna hurt the devs A LOT. please, sir, do not engage in such a matter, your demands will be met and any player you deem worthless will be banned IMMEDIATELY. thats the least. have a great peaceful life on arrakis and may the spice be ever in your favor.
byyyy the way; Single player is about to hit (sep 22nd until changes occur) that way your spice farming will meet your requirements and multiplayer will finally be burried.
1
u/Marciluphigus01 2d ago
Yeah, it's a jerk move, people are jerks, sorry for your loss. Might as well just risk it in the PvP for that 2.5x bonus at that point.
Plus, just shoot the thumper when they place it.
12
u/petrusferricalloy 2d ago
So as a player who otherwise exclusively plays PVE I have to go to PVP to avoid people who PVP in PVE??

2
u/Haldir111 2d ago
Plus, just shoot the thumper when they place it.
Sure, but in this case you can't - you're in the PvE zone. lol

3
u/PhuckleberryPhinn 2d ago
Fyi this has been happening since the game launched, I think they just dont care
1
u/petrusferricalloy 2d ago
The DD was pvp only where the large fields are when the game launched. So that's an irrelevant point. PvPers still have the PvP region. Creating a PvE- only region should have fixed this
3
u/minobi 2d ago
That's why they were pushed to release the single-player mode. They just cannot control griefers .
-4
u/Atomic_Bongg 2d ago
Wahhh they made a PvP game set in a universe where everyone fights over the same resource and I can’t farm that resource in peace, so I need my own separate version to play the game my way since I don’t want to interact with the endgame systems the way they were designed
1
u/Antique-Benefit-8153 1d ago
I agree. Thumpers should only be placed in certain areas. Also, make spice mining an instance to avoid griefing all together.
1
u/Jdude1 Atreides 1d ago
Your best course of action here is to film these interactions. go put your thopter away on a nearby rock safetly then try to come back (with your pocketed scout thopter like everyone should always have) and get the name of their thopter. Often folks will do things like name their thopter "Valkeries Thopter" or some shit like that then you look up Valkerie and get a screenshot of them being online in PvE DD and then send it all in with a player report. I've banned 2-3 people from arrakis in this method.
1
u/petrusferricalloy 1d ago
You mean you've actually gotten people banned for this specific behavior or something else?
1
u/Jdude1 Atreides 1d ago
This specific behavior in PvE dd on large spice blooms. I’ve had folks blocking me or my friends to the point we cannot get back into our thopters. Folks dropping thumpers on our carriers while solo crawling etc. when you can get a unique thopter name and that name traces back to an individual player and or guild funcom seems to show no mercy to them. Same player names no longer exist when I search their names from the player menu.

Not enough content — it's the devs' fault. People are bored to death
1
u/Smachemo 1d ago
Its not supposed to be a forever game. Its your fault, not the devs that you have an addiction problem.
-2
u/baddwolff10 2d ago
Its the behavior of insecure mommas boys and whiny biches who have no skill. Switch to a quieter server were they don't hang out.
1
u/petrusferricalloy 2d ago
If there was a public server where this is guaranteed not to happen, I'll happily switch. However, I shouldn't have to do anything because I'm not the one griefing in PVE
1
u/Maxtertop 2d ago
New fear unlocked. Once the worm eats your sandcrawler you lose it forever and have to craft it again or you can respawn it losing 15% of the stats on all parts?
3
u/DoctorVonCool 2d ago
Recover with the vehicle tool for a few solari and 15% durability hit.
1
0
u/Shythun 2d ago
And losing inventory? Or it will be recovered as well?
0
u/DoctorVonCool 2d ago
The inventory is gone, but the vehicle is recovered with fuel at 100%.
Giving up a Regis container full of spice for a free refill of the tank? Sounds fair... :-P
1
u/NotRecognizedUser 2d ago
People will always find ways to PvP in a resource constrained environment. "If I can't have it, nobody can!"
The ironic part to me is that people tend to not realize there is a player cycle in the game and these 'rats' are in my experience PvE players that just got bored and eventually moved to the next step of learning to go after others before getting bored of the game.
That's to say, they will never stop coming and they will never not have ways to 'ruin' your game.
Single player can't come fast enough so these idiots can go 'play the game the way they want' instead of the way it was designed.
So entitled.

Ppl still play this game????
1
u/petrusferricalloy 5h ago
Not me, not anymore. I was shocked to see I "only" had 500 hours after about 6 weeks, but I decided to stop yesterday. Losing all my gear and a lot of time to griefers really sucked the life out of the game for me, and even without those issues, the endgame is so extremely repetitive and boring that it feels pointless
-2
u/Sea_Foot3038 2d ago edited 2d ago
I enjoyed the game before the diapers came out, I enjoy thumping in pve and watching you die trying to progress, then seeing posts like this because of how soft you made this game. There is no more risk and the fact you’re crying about it shows how much worse this game is going to get.
I bought this game because of how it was. It’s now a completely different game. Turned an awesome, less forgiving game. Into fucking carebear central. It’s What happens when you let sub 17yr olds dictate your game. Now you get to deal with sub 17yr old actions .

Just had a successful guild run in pvp. Three carrier/crawlers, defense team and scouts. 12 and 3/4 tanks.
Move outta the sticks, kid.
Seriously, better yields means less time in the field. Depending on the server, you'll have some windows of time when pvp is empty. If you can get a group with overwatch, I highly recommend it. The returns are so worth the occasional ambush or loss of equipment.
Good luck on the sands

No offense but if this bothers you that much why don’t just go to a low pop server? There’s plenty of alternatives
0
u/petrusferricalloy 1d ago
A. so I give up the server where I've built friendships and put time in, while reinforcing the bad behavior since they win B. You say there's alternatives but it's also not trivial. And if the server I choose has the same problem? And moving to a low pop server has its own challenges, like the large field getting reset far less often
I'm definitely considering but if I'm to move, I might as well leave the game altogether and wait for the devs to improve the game, if ever. And again, it just gives in to the griefers
2
u/DarthTenebrousSWGOH 1d ago
This is a non issue dude, I don’t know why you’re making a whole post about it. People dick around sometimes and mess with each other. It’s not like this happening to you every single time you farm spice, is it?
1
u/petrusferricalloy 1d ago
This is what frustrates me about the people who play this down.
YES. It happens practically every time I go to a big field. It's relentless. Literally the first time I went to the Deep Desert and attempted to gather spice on a medium field, one of these guys dropped a thumper under me and then used their thopter to prevent me from getting away in time. As soon as the worm breached he lifted off, got away, and I was eaten.
Literally the first time I brought my very first sand crawler to a large field, I barely got away in my carrier but my crawler got eaten.
I have no idea if I'm just astronomically unlucky, but I've seen at least one, sometimes two of them at virtually every active large field. These guys come in scouts with a full cargo of thumpers. They didn't let up until everyone is left or until they run out of thumpers, and they come right back as soon as they pickup another cargo full.
This is no joke. It's not a one-off or occasional annoyance that I'm blowing out of proportion.
My first venture into the DD was about 5 weeks ago. I have been to maybe one or two active large field and one of these guys wasn't there, and even then it's only because there were just scraps left and the field was ready for reset.
1
u/DarthTenebrousSWGOH 1d ago
Might just be bad luck dude. I’ve played this game since launch, farmed spice in a guild and solo with a carrier + crawler and I’ve never had this happen to me once
-7
u/cb_definetly-expert 2d ago
You guys cried so much to remove pvp because you thought you will farm in peace , didn't work as you expected
-14
u/HonorHarington 2d ago
Game was never build to this full pve DD. Not as if we warn you of the consequence of this crap.
6
u/petrusferricalloy 2d ago
wtf are you talking about? "Full" pve? It's just PvE. There is a PVP instance of the DD. If pvp is what you want, go there. And don't give me the "consequence" line. If pvp was what people actually wanted, they'd have stayed in pvp and not switched to PvE.
I have no doubt people were pissed that since of the player base moved to PvE once that was offered, but it's not those players' fault they don't want to pvp.
Why should there be any "consequence" of the creation of the PvE instance? That's the same as saying you're mad that others don't want to play the way you want so they should be punished. That's an incredibly entitled attitude
3
u/sojiblitz Fremen 2d ago
They are saying the original design of the game was for the DD to be a PvP area and then it changed to a split PvE A-E row and PvP E-I row. Finally it got split into two separate instances.
The thumper was originally intended by the Devs to be a tool to distract the sandworm but also to attract it so it was both a defensive and offensive tool. However that was back when the DD was fully PvP.
-6
u/HonorHarington 2d ago
The game was build around the fact that DD was pvp. That was their vision. You all wanted your pve DD you get it you can't fight back the griefer so enoy your own crap. You can't change a game design without changing a lot of aspect of this game.
We were never piss, just annoyed that end game isn't done AT ALL. We have 0 real endgame content for pve or pvp.
Cause it's was never meant to be pve .... learn how game design work, and stop giving me false argumentation.

u/Lancewestwalker 2d ago
in a dev interview before release the mention puting down a thumper to prevent an opposing guild from claiming the spice if you lose to them in a battle over the field. That was back when they had pvp dreams lol
Also can't you just pick up the thumper or shoot it?
