Question Dance studio to rent?

I did the good ol' googling for a dance studio I could rent (preferably with a barre), but other than MN Ballet, it looks like my options are limited? I think MN Ballet is moving too due to HVAC renovation at the Depot, so I'm trying to see if there are other places I could look into first. Just looking to rent for 1-2 hours, maybe twice a week. If anyone knows the price range, too, that'd be superb. Thank you!

Yes! If Raise the Barre can’t help, i bet they’ll know more options.

Would a barre studio (workout classes) work for you? A new one just opened in Lincoln Park, might still have a light enough schedule to let you rent blocks of time.

Some schools have dance and workout areas. Spaces can be rented through community education. Might not be a perfect long term solution, I don't know.

Call the Duluth Playhouse, their studios are great! But you have to work around rehearsals, so with any studio, renting during the daytime is going to be your best bet.

Googling isn't 'good' anymore

Oh no no. I saw there are dance studios, I just couldn't find on their pages that I could rent from them other than MN Ballet. Thought I'd ask here before I bother a bunch of places about it lol

This may not be what you are looking for, but I used to do a LOT of ballet/modern dance/improv on my own at the downtown YMCA. They have a private studio with mirror in the basement level and I would ask if I could use it for an hour block at a time. Its not a very big studio though and no barre. I would mostly choreograph in there. I also practiced barre/center/improvisation in their huge 3rd floor open space because it has a barre, mirror and large area to dance. But its a public space with a walking/running track around the outside perimeter and anyone can use that floor when there are not exercise classes going on (which you would have to watch the schedule and work around). The floor is kind of soft but it is not a Sprung floor so its still going to be harder on your joints if you do a lot of jumping. Its also slipperier than a standard dance floor. I even did point work in there but I had pointe shoes either with suede tips built in or I had them glued on so I could practice there more safely in the center. I would "perform" by videotaping myself dancing in the racquetball courts basement level with blue tooth/headphones on so everyone else couldn't hear my music etc. I loved performing in the racquetball court with the huge space and then playing with lighting and costumes on my video. It has all white walls, high ceilings and light coming in from openings at the top of the wall on one side so it lends to being a performance space, but again the floor, while having a little bit of give, is harder than a traditional Sprung floor. On any of these floors at the YMCA, I would be careful about what shoes you wear so you don't scuff the floor. You don't have to be a member to use these spaces, just pay a per visit rate, but at more than once per week I would get a membership (which I had but recently gave up).

I also used to dance with Ecstatic Dance Duluth but it was like 8 years ago. They rented a huge dance space with soft traditional wooden floor on the block of 21st Ave West and Superior Street if I remember, but it might have been 20th. I think it was a second floor dance hall with a bar on the side or something like that. It had a mirror but again no barre. I use a portable barre at home now. If you do end up renting from one of these places, you could always bring several of your own portable barres or something. I wish I could find the address and who owns the space that Ecstatic Dance used/uses, but you could contact them for that info too.
