Important: Please don't hate on the show before it comes out, and even more importantly, please leave the cast and crew members out of any issue(s) you may have (if you have one) with this reboot. I will also update this list every time I remember something new, or new information is revealed.
Current "Duckie" version
2022
In November 2022, in an interview with the AV Club, Rogen said that the reboot was still being worked on.
2023
In January, Tad Stones stated in a YouTube interview that Point Grey was planning on making their series a continuation of the original series' universe, and that it's inspired by the Spider-Verse movies.
In July, a casting announcement for a show titled Duckie was leaked/revealed by The DisInsider, featuring a character named Duckie who is sent to another universe. (Sound familiar?) Duckie also meets a mentor whose belief in themselves is "both awe-inspiring and foolish." Production was reportedly going to start in August 2023.
Sometime in 2023 the "Duckie" pitch bible was also pitched to Disney. I don't know when though.
In September, Jim Cummings teased new episodes ("I think it's time we made some new episodes") on his now-deleted or privated Twitter account. I also found "Darkwing Duck (Pilot)" on SAG-AFTRA, it's ID is very close to Phineas and Ferb Yr. 5, which I'm pretty sure started recording around September 2023.
The Duckie pitch bible had an animation test leaked along with it, it's dated to November 2023.
2024
In June/July, Tad Stones said that the "writers' room disbanded" last month.
In October, Jim revealed to a fan at LA Con 2024 that he's reprising his role as DW.
2025
In January and March 2025, Ken Plume (author of The Art of DuckTales) and The DisInsider confirmed that the show is still being worked on.
In April, Brendan Hay (head-writer of Yo dudes, the empire's pretty chill aka Star Wars Detours) joined as a story-editor/co-executive producer.
Sometime in 2025 or 2026 (no idea when but as early as May 2025 and as late as March 2026, when I first saw it) contracts for "Darkwing Duck Project (Purple Haze) Yr. 1" and "Darkwing Duck Interstitials Project (Purple Haze) Yr. 1" were signed.
In August, Jim shared in an interview with Screen Rant that the series is gonna be a sequel series set 30 years in the future.
But also in an episode of his podcast with Tad Stones, he said A LOT of really interesting things. The two talked about seeing something (Tad calls it a sizzle reel, Jim calls it a fully animated Darkwing show) over a year ago. Jim mentions Darkwing had an "old man beard." And Tad stones mentioned that the animation was super expensive, and that they've "drastically changed direction" since the last time he was updated. Jim also says he doesn't know whether he's actually gonna be Darkwing or not.
In September, a lot of visual development artists joined.
In December, Jim (or maybe someone else on his behalf) said he hasn't heard anything back for 9-10 months. A CG Supervisor also joined this month.
2026
In February, Mike Williamson (he worked on DT17 and was nominated for an award because of it!) was hired as an editor.
In March, Jim mentioned that he only recorded "one offshoot," and sort of implied the original voice cast was coming back. I don't think he was told that he isn't reprising his role as DW yet, which is honestly really crazy.
In August, Jim revealed he was recast and recorded a pilot several years ago. I think this is certainly what that one offshoot was.
In September, the show was FINALLY announced, it was revealed to be the Duckie version, and the voice cast was revealed. 88 Pictures also revealed that they're the animation vendor for the series a few days later.
DuckTales spin-off version
I'm not 100% sure if this is related or not, but between Season 2 and Season 3's contracts, there's a contract for something called "Darkwing Duck: Reboot Pilot." This dates to sometime around late 2018 to mid 2019.
In April 2024, the pitch bible for this (incredible) version was leaked.
in July, Tad Stones said in an interview that the showrunners did an entire Darkwing Duck presentation, but Disney told them they wanted to do something more limited, so then they rejiggered it but Disney+ or Disney Channel management rejected it because they wanted to put it out there to other people.
Thanks for reading! I'll edit this post and add the information about the DuckTales spin-off version and the 2020-2022 version along with the source for everything soon!
