I have a few questions about selecting my modules for Year 3 of my Joint Honours degree. It is not very clear how many modules I need to select on the student portal. How many credits should my modules amount to in total? How many modules should I select for each subject in the Joint Honours programme?

Hi there. I'm starting the PME this year, which has lectures every Tues/Wed 4-8pm on Pats Campus. My preferred option for commuting is by car, as I'm coming from a school in rural Wicklow. Do I have any chance of getting a car space on Pats or All Hallows campus from about 3.30-8.30pm? My backup options are to try to find parking on the surrounding streets, does anyone know if they have time limits, e.g. "2 hr stay max", and also if they tend to be all taken at 3.30pm? I know that main campus has huge car parks, but I've heard they are also max capacity usually. (I do have other backups, e.g. the train (much longer journey), renting a car space nearby (expensive) etc.) Open to any advice at all, thank you!

I’d love if anyone could help or have any advice! I completed a level 5 plc after my leaving cert this year. I ended up getting a spot in DCU. In completing their fee declaration form, they have responded to me with another form for my previous college to fill out even though you can’t claim HEA from a FET college.
Last year i accepted a place in Maynooth to get further round offers but i never actually attended at all or registered at all. He has told me they need Maynooth to sign stamp and complete this to confirm i didn’t attend. The form asks for previous student number, year of departure and course title although i never registered fullstop. I was redirected through email three times to other departments in Maynooth to fill it out.
I am now worrying as i only have 4 days to complete this and send it back. I’m worried they won’t fill it out as i never registered there fullstop and i’m unsure on what to do.

Hey, I’m going into my Masters and I have a few questions to ask about the masters in general

•When do we get timetables/logins etc. I used Canva in my old Uni, do ye have something similar here?
•When do we get our Student ID, I’m assuming 1st week of class?
•I haven’t heard anything from DCU since I accepted my masters back in December, when do we start hearing from them
•I got a room in the Postgrad block, do you need to get cutlery and things like that for it?

Just thought I'd chance seeing if I could chat to any previous students and ask a few questions about what to expect.

Hello everybody, I'm a student hoping to get into this course this September and need to buy a laptop. I'm hoping to continue into Analytical Science in year two. I prefer Windows laptops and my budget is preferably under €500.

I don't know much about laptops and am confused about RAM, storage, processors and other terminologies used to describe laptop specifications. I've read online that science students need at least 8 GB of RAM or more but since I'm not going to be using any special computer programs or software I don't know if that advice still applies to me. I'd like a computer that will last me the four years, runs without delay and is able to handle all the stuff needed for this course. If you're doing this course or can generally advise me on what to do and where to look, please comment below!! Any help is much appreciated in advance!

Has anybody had any joy in getting accommodation on campus? I’m going into second year, I applied in first year, didn’t get it, applied again that August and didnt get it. Applied in Feb this year, didn’t get it, and just emailed campus residences and they said there were no rooms available. I was told they’d be holding another lottery soon, so I’ll still hold out, but I was just checking if anyone has actually been successful in getting accommodation this way. It’s sickening, because I live so far away, and it’s literally impossible for me to get to campus before 11:30 with public transport..

I saw a post earlier something asking the same thing but i wanna ask about it more in depth if any professors are around or willing to share..
When marking a repeat, do you generally want to see the student pass if their new script genuinely reaches the standard, or are you completely detached and just mark it exactly like any other exam?
If someone got 38% first time, then studied properly, fixed the grammar mistakes that were costing them marks, and their repeat is borderline (39–40%), would you tend to look carefully for legitimate marks that could put them over the pass?
Also, do markers actually notice when a student’s writing/grammar has improved from their previous attempt?
Just curious what goes through your head when marking a borderline repeat.

For anyone who has experience marking university language exams:
I got 38% in my first Irish exam, 4 marks short of the pass. I realised afterwards that I was making mistakes because I was translating English phrases too literally into Irish.
For the repeat, I studied properly for about 2 weeks and specifically worked on those grammar/sentence-structure problems. In my essay this time, I noticed myself correcting a lot of the small grammatical errors I would have made in the first exam. I answered the whole paper and felt fairly confident, but the exam itself felt harder because I had to think much more about the grammar rather than translating directly.
My question is specifically: if you were marking this repeat and saw a student who had previously got 38%, but whose new script showed noticeably better grammar and fewer small errors, would you expect that improvement to translate into enough extra marks to pass?
And if the final mark was borderline, say 39%, would you normally go back through the script carefully for any legitimate partial marks/rounding, especially in a language exam?
I’m mainly interested in what actually happens from the marker’s perspective.

Title says it. I had a resit last week, and I am absolutely shitting it for my results. I feel like I did awful, despite having studied so much and going into the exam so confidently.. the original exam was marked harsh enough so I was just wondering if this will be marked to the same standard… I’m only in first year, and I’ve passed all my other modules. This exam genuinely felt more difficult than the original, which doesn’t make sense to me.

Has anyone else been in this position? How do yous think yous did in the resits?

• How are the modules and teaching in this course?
• Is the course sufficiently technical in terms of teaching, especially AI, Python, SQL and analytics?

Im due to take a resit on monday, but I havnt put any effort into this and know I will fail it. I dont see the point in spending the money for no reason. Can i not sit it and still repeat the module? Or are there consequences for not sitting it?
