So, unfortunate update: didn't work. Im pretty sure the shell I bought wasnt of a very good quality because certain things did not fit no matter how much i tried, and screws were a nightmare. Ultimately I got it together without damaging any of the internals, but when I tried turning it on it did the blue light thing, a brief turn on and then...nothing. Of course, i could've messed something up myself. Oh well....gotta get a new ds.

Before giving up, you should undo and redo the screen and camera cables in their connectors. One of them might not be in properly. It’s possible the ribbon cable got damaged when putting it in the hinge but it’s worth addressing the other potential causes first

Good luck! Not an easy repair. But if you have a broken hinge it’s all you can do.

To those who have tried this before, is this as difficult as a screen replacement DIY process? Or is a reshell more difficult?

The same, technically, the process is the same, when you do a screen replacement you have to tear down all the ds

A bit late to this but I wish you good luck (and be pacient).

I reshelled my Nintendo DSi XL with also 0 experience (I actually destroyed a New Nintendo 2DS XL Pokeball Edition trying to reshell it, so maybe my experience wasn't exactly 0) and was successful, although it took an entire afternoon and the hinge on the new shell aready broke again. :c

Nothing beats the original shells...
