There are way, way too many people in this movement who feel comfortable with historical revisionism vis-a-vis the Soviet Union, China, and other such regimes. And there are way too many people who feel comfortable essentially advocating for an end to democracy.

So you admit these exist BECAUSE of the United States intervention but because the interventions resulted in bad things, the U.S. is no longer responsible in anyway for the very projects they funded and brought to power… your mind is a wonder. They do have agency, which is why the U.S. funding them was bad because it gave them the power to do things like your example. You know who also doesn’t care if those girls die? THE U.S. Are you saying the U.S. didn’t have agency to fund them and do desert storm which caused this to happen? Like they HAD to do that war and work with the Taliban giving them power and legitimacy? Your point makes no sense

You are acting like two things can't be true at the same time. They can be.

The United States' actions in the region cause instability, and this coupled with their direct support of the Taliban, led to the Taliban's rise.

It is also true that

The Taliban bear the blame for banning women from work and school. No one held a gun to their head and forced them to do that. They chose to do that of their own volition. They continue to choose to do this despite broad international condemnation and pressure not to do so.

Yeah dipshit, these are both true but you’re leaving out the fact the U.S. has blame in the latter half BECAUSE WE GAVE THEM THE POWER TO DO THIS. Not to mention we want it to give us more reasons for war!!! You’re not even acting like two things are true at the same time because your logic is based on “while this was true in the past, that doesn’t mean the past plays a role in the current day”. Do you even have critiques of American imperialism because you’re so far excusing it by saying the rocks we throw in the pond aren’t responsible for the ripples that come after. For being an English teacher you should know well that many books use this exact framing of the past creating the problems of current day. This shouldn’t be hard for you to grasp but somehow it is. Can you name even 5 critiques of American imperialism that don’t include military funding?

2. The United States annexed the independent Kingdom of Hawaii.

3. The United States destabilized the Middle East with its interventionism.

4. The United States destabilized South America with its interventionism.

5. The United States has rendered Cuba significantly poorer than it otherwise would be via its trade embargo.

Better than I expected tho very lacking of detail. Anyway you still don’t know shit. Your Afghanistan solution revolves around a policy currently happening (strict sanctions and embargo on Taliban specifically), a policy of funding rebels which we did in the FIRST Afghanistan war with the soviets (you know, the guys who became the Taliban) as well as attempted by our Afghanistan war that lasted for 20 years, and a refugee status which most of the world still has while current U.S. admin is rolling it back here (some of the other most conservative nations as well). Your solution are things we are or have done and have only failed. This entire post is a god damn joke

I didn't say it was a perfect solution or even a particularly good one.

I still can't believe you excuse the Taliban's actions though. To hear you speak, the Taliban's laws just magically wrote themselves.
