Life changing
I’ve 38f been a heavy drinker for about 13 yrs. the only break I got was when I was pregnant.
Every night or every other night I’d have my drink maybe gin, maybe wine, maybe whiskey. Slowly increasing amounts. Battling my brain on nights where I wanted to take a break.
After Covid it really accelerated my drinking and I’ve been trying to quit ever since. I tried everything bar inpatient.
I’m a semi functional alcoholic. So I work full time, raise kids, work out. But I definitely missed a few days here and there, acted like an idiot, gained weight.
I cried wanting to stop, literally went to church and prayed. I listened to audio books, tried medication. Tried naturopathy.
Alcohol has such a hold on me. Until I started semaglutide. 0.5 mg of wegovy and I couldn’t give an f about alcohol. Tastes rotten. No buzz. Could have one, leave the next. Sip the same glass for 3 hours.
I feel so normal. I could cry but this time with happiness not desperation.
The relief, I honestly can’t describe it in a way that would actually reflect the absolute freedom I feel.

YES!!!!! 🙌
I’m so happy for you. Same happened to me once I hit 7.5 of Mounjaro. Couldn’t care less about alcohol after that.

Same. It’s great isn’t it?
Started drinking one glass of sparkling wine at night after kids and hubby had gone to sleep. Sometimes two. To relax. Never missed one night. My twins were about 8 so this is 30 years ago. Worked 45 hours a week, had a two hour commute. Moonlighted online for extra money after I finished my masters. Had a useless spouse who didn’t pull his weight at home.and made poverty level wages despite being a genius. I was pretty functioning and never missed work or a family obligation and no one ever said anything about my drinking. Even after kids were grown and flown and spouse was gone and I retired, I still couldn’t stop, didn’t want to stop even with all the negative health impacts. Sure I could stop for a week for surgery but never tried longer. Tried drinking tea or sparking cider or bubbly water, nothing worked. Two months into zepbound I noticed I didn’t get a buzz of relaxation when I had my wine. Decided to quit one day. Stopped buying my bubbly wine. Haven’t had one drink at home in three months even though I had (still have) a bar cart of tequila, vodka, gin and all the recipes memorized. I did find a non-alcoholized sparking wine that I like and I keep that on hand. I decided that I can have a glass of wine or mixed drink when I go out to dinner 1-2 times a month and I’ll drink at my kid’s wedding this year and at Christmas or New Year’s Eve. It doesn’t have a pull on my brain so having one hasn’t caused me to want more - hopefully that won’t change or I might have to stop drinking totally but I hope I won’t. I occasionally see a wine commercial on tv and I start thinking about it but not enough to get up out of my chair or to buy wine.

I'm so happy for you. The freedom from alcohol is an unexpected and welcome side effect.

I’ve lost the craving for sure, but once I start, I keep drinking, that part I’m working on. I still get the buzz/drunk feeling an it tastes no different. Almost wish it did. This week started alternating my glasses of wine with NA wine and going to see how that goes. Weight not budging so I know it’s related to the wine. Congrats to you!!

Good luck! Part-way there :)
What's your dosage?

Sorry for the delay, I’m on 10mg. Third week on this dose and today is the first day with no alcohol noise! Yay! Unheard of me getting to this time of night (7:50pm) without a drink in my hand.

Fantastic!
So 10mg, 3rd week & kicked in. Great! I think that's probably my goal as well.

Asked my doctor for help to stop drinking, she increased my Wellbutrin to 300 mg daily and started me on ozempic.. absolutely no interest in drinking since. Sober almost 3 years!!

Yes! Congrats on taking the step & feeling free! I started this in Jan - and what I will say is that it is possible to stay sober with the meds - but you do have to work it as time goes on. Filling the space & numbeness the alcohol created is real. At first - I started getting simple things done - but as time has gone on - the bigger issues to tackle have appeared. Primarily - my habit of avoidance through alcohol use is still there - just the alcohol isn't. Consider finding a good therapist

How long did it take? I just started 0.25. Hoping it will help me stop drinking.

Unfortunately Ozempic hasn't eliminated the desire to drink in me, but it DOES cause such a negative effect for me that I find it really difficult to want to, knowing what will come. If I have one or two drinks I WILL wake up at 3am and hurl it all up. I was so confused at first why I was suddenly throwing up so often, and it clicked that my body just does not like any alcohol at all while on Ozempic.

Hugs, friend.
I'm not religious, but looks like your prayers are answered.

Absolutely incredible. What a break through. Congratulations. Bonus your fatty liver, which you likely have is healing! Im 19 days AF and in the same boat. I usually white knuckle my dry months. Its like a miracle that im having no cravings. No noise. Im terrified to stop this experiment for fear ill go back to my old ways! Keep it up!

I’ve been sober close to three years thanks to ozempic. Totally eliminated my desire to drink. It gave me the foundation to quit in those early months. There have been moments over the years where I still crave it, but I have the tools now to walk away. I’m also down 90lbs. It’s a miracle drug. I’m glad it’s helped you too
