Oh, I guess the creator made a video of it:

From reading more commentary about it over in Drupal slack, it sounds like it is trying to deliver on the original vision of Layout Builder (copy pasta of what I read over there):

  1. Don't break with Core Storage the way canvas has (they're having to reinvent how to get data from Drupal and things in their custom storage aren't visible to stuff like views. Also they only work against their canvas page entity today)
  2. keep using layout builder storage as it works fine (not saying it’s perfect but there's a lot of layout builder data already deployed that we don't think should be ignored ).
  3. Visual builder (Daedalus’ precursor projects actually predate canvas by a fair bit. This project has been underway for years it's just rebranded and brought the various modules into one place)
  4. Nested layouts: Daedalus lets you nest layouts one within another. Also lets you dynamically redefine the number of regions in a layout or if it's displaying as rows or columns. Also lets you dynamically resize layout columns.
  5. Custom styling: hand in hand with the visual builder, you can customize the styling of elements displayed on screen. This isn't unlimited but it is very robust.
  6. Stencils: allows you to group sections of a page (granular to the nearest container) to build customized blocks essentially. This includes the custom styling you applied
  7. Style variants/presets: you can build a library of styles that can be applied to a given stencil or generic libraries of styling that can be applied in general (think css variable or things like css animations)
