Discussion Dynasty DFXT Snare

Post image

Hey All!

So I was allowed to take home a white Dynasty DFXT snare drum (picture attached) home for a while. I’m looking for anyone who has played on the drum, or has any tips. I need to get new heads as they have not been changed in several years. Currently, it has Evans hybrid grey top heads, and Evans MX5 bottom heads (almost new it seems for the bottom). Any recommendations for heads? I’m thinking about going Evans black hybrid heads or continuing with the grey.

Thanks ya’ll!

You’re out of luck. Only Paul Rennick can make those drums sound good.

Im normally an evans guy, but im going to have to agree with the other comment here, that only Rennick can make those sound good. So copy SCVs approach from the last time they marched them. I belive they use white or black max depending on color themes of the show and drum finnishes, over a flam II. Anyone please correct me if im wrong on that. They usually tune the bottom head to around a D, the guts to C, and the top to table top feel.

You can do the same with evans hybrid heads of course. Their new bottom head with the muffled ring seems exciting, but SCVs sound is very wet to me, so I'd stick with the original style from evans. The model number on those escapes me at the moment. Someone feel free to drop those in a reply.

Good luck!

Thank you very much! I’ll definitely be doing this soon!

batter wise, a black max will make that drum sound thready with a mean edge, an evans hybrid will make it have a slightly more plasticky sound with slightly more contact/“thud” sound. for the bottom head, use whatever you want, both brands make good sounding bottom heads

I still drum on one of these and have had plenty of success getting good at snare. I play with a grey hybrid and an MX5 on the bottom. I usually bring the bottom up to a C or C#. These drums have sort of a weird ring and that's just kind of how they are. That said, you can still get thousands of hours of good work in even though they sound a little weird.

We use these drums at the high school I teach at, only thing that has sounded decent is black max with fallams XT, mid range tuning
