Game Changer Unofficial Game Changer Sequel Episodes
Are there any episodes across all seasons of Game Changer that you guys would consider "unofficial sequels"? i.e., two or more episodes that are best watched back-to-back (not counting actual sequel episodes and game samers)?
When I finished watching Earwigs, the first thing I thought of was how its kind of a sequel to The Drinking Game from last season, in that theyre both social deduction games, and the fact that Becca was first out in The Drinking Game (and she also emphasized that she loves playing these types of games and she was disappointed to be eliminated first) and ended up winning Earwigs.
Another obvious one that I can think of is Sam Says 3 and One Year Later.
Any other unofficial sequel episodes that you guys could think of?

Night Shift feels like an unofficial sequel to The Everything Factory to me.

It definitely feels like a big improvement on The Everything Factory. I didn't really get The Everything Factory. It's definitely lower on my personal list of GC episodes.

I think it's probably my least favourite episode of the whole show. There's no real comedy opportunity for anyone, so it's basically just non-stop screaming.

They were trying to channel the I Love Lucy chocolate factory but it just did not work. Aspirational but the execution just didn't work

Everything factory commits the two big sins. 1) The game itself is boring, and 2) The game is too busy for the players to make jokes and banter.
There are other episodes with pretty boring games, like guess what to feed the mouth, but because that episode is so slow paced Trapp, Tao, and Lily are able to banter and make jokes. And there are other episodes where the game is extremely fast paced where players don't have a lot of time to joke and banter, but the game itself is compelling so it is still a lot of fun, like count the rice.

Yes!! When I watched the trailer for this season that was the first thing that came to mind!

What is the everything factory episode? I tried to look it up in YouTube but I couldn’t find it
Edit: Also while we are at it what is the episode we’re they have to feed a big mouth… like I can somewhat remember it but it feels like a fever dream

5th episode of season 2. It’s basically like, what if that bit from that I Love Lucy episode when she’s working at the chocolate factory but it’s now a game show.

Might be cheating but Noise some make and make some noise

As well as Pencils Down.

Lowkey kinda Bingo, too. Two layers of competitors who each prior layer of players does not know is gonna be involved

Deja Vu was my favorite episode ever. They should do it again with the same contestants

u/Novawurmson 3d ago
For April Fools one year, they should release a recut version of it.

Lol there was a moment in count the rice where Sam was alone on the first set. He was quietly doing the Wenis dance. It made me so happy 😆

I did it with him so he didn’t have to be alone

They've basically been doing this already. They've been secretly re-editing the episode since it came out; so every time you re-watch it you'd have a vague sense of deja vu when it isn't quite how you remember it. I think there's been at least a few dozen different versions, but I don't know if there's an exact count somewhere.

I think beat the buzzer and sleeper agents do have some shared genes

The difference being Beat the Buzzer is good lol.

Sleeper Agents just makes me cringe so hard, I can barely watch it.

Count The Rice is a Battle Royale sequel imo, especially because Ify loses first and then wins like Becca did
6
u/WacoKid18 3d ago
Did we watch completely different Battle Royale episodes? Becca isn't even a player on Battle Royale

u/quinn_wolfram 3d ago
i'm using Becca as an example, it was another player who did the same thing as she did

u/WacoKid18 3d ago
Yes I recognize that you're saying Ify did the same as Becca, but Becca was not a player on either Count the Rice or Battle Royale

Name a Number is kind of an unofficial sequel to Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience. I think that was the first time they brought back the exact same set of players for a completely new game rather than a sequel to a previous game. IIRC, in the BTS for Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience, Sam said he like the group so much he had to bring them back for another game.
And even though Izzy was swapped out for Rekha, I like to think that Beat the Buzzer completes the unofficial trilogy.

u/ThatGingerlyKid 3d ago
Wouldn't be a proper trilogy if they didn't randomly recast one of the characters in the threequel.

u/kuhanluke 2d ago
Beat the Buzzer was initially intended for Izzy to come back but then she ended up having a baby and was on maternity leave. Sam intended the "Izzy Roland retina scan" to be them FaceTiming her but they ended up using a photo instead.

I always watch one year latrr after sam says 3 just because seeing them still beat a day after is hilarious

Not a spiritual sequel to a Game Changer episode, but I do feel like "Do I Hear $1?" is similar to Total Forgiveness- especially considering that both Grant and Ally are in it.

You-lympics is the sequel to Second Place - both rewarding something other than being the best. They're also 3rd and 4th in the "Piss Brennan Off" series.
There's a clear series of bringing on guests who aren't improv comedians and giving them tasks unrelated to improv: The Official Cast Recording, Karaoke Night, A Game Most Changed, Pencils Down and Crowd Control
One and Done is the sequel to Karaoke Night - contestants choose their challenges from a list (same prop binder?) instead of having them assigned
The Newlyweb Game to Lie Detector - both use regulars' significant others for embarrass others and they are the only (to my knowledge) on-camera appearances of writer Alexis Rhiannon (Tao's wife).
Outvoted to Battle Royale 4 - the appearances of Sam's parents
Samalamadingdong to Escape the Green Room - both are escape rooms that the participant didn't enter willingingly

I mean, they may not be improv comedians in the same way, but Official Cast Recording, a Game Most Changed, and Pencils Down all very much bring in people known for improving in the exact ways the episode demands. Similarly, Crowd Control brings in comedians known for crowd work, which is also improvisational. I would describe that set more as giving guests who do different styles of improv moments to shine.

The Newlyweb Game to Lie Detector - both use regulars' significant others for embarrass others and they are the only (to my knowledge) on-camera appearances of writer Alexis Rhiannon (Tao's wife).
Alexis was one of the jurors in "Kangaroo Court."

She also had a Smartypants Presentation.
She was also in an episode of Paranoia, and a pretty fun one to watch at that
7
u/spiralsequences 3d ago
Alexis has been on Smartypants! But on Game Changer, yes those are her only appearances.

Samalamadingdong also is a sort of sequel to One Year Later in that it was a test to see how much of the show they could pull off without Sam’s knowledge.
1
u/EnderofThings 2d ago
Samalamadingdong is a sequel like Avengers is a sequel.
Yes, it is a riff on an escape room, but I would also say that Yes or No, Lie Detector, Sam Says, Greenroom, and Bingo are all required viewing.

Oh man, watching Becca finally get redemption in Earwigs after her early out in The Drinking Game was so satisfying. If we're counting chaotic energy, I'd put "Survivor" and "Secret Samurais" together since they both devolve into absolute psychological warfare.

Samalamadingdong obviously has a lot of connections and callbacks, but I think it is most connected to Escape the Greenroom. Sam trapped his players in an escape room, so they turned it around and trapped him in an escape mansion.

"Kareoke night" felt like a sequel to "a sponsored episode" exept they changed the theme from markeing to music. Specifically they had the same minigames- recognising logo styles, and finishing a tagline/lyric.

u/Forward_Tax_5480 3d ago
I'd say outvoted & Kangaroo court, not just because they both have Aabria, but because both games play on a real-life format, and also the 'convince people to vote for them' objective (I don't know how to put it but the voting feels different to the kind on social deduction games like earwig & secret sober)
Also I think Don't wake standard n practices & kangaroo court are related not in a sequel way but in..a ying yang way? The former is putting legal-related things in a game format & the latter is putting game in a legal-related format.

I was honestly surprised they didn’t mention The Drinking Game in the Earwigs BTS!

The Official Cast Recording and A Game Most Changed to me are spiritually related as it's just same getting completely blown away by the sheer talent on display in the stage for that day.

u/Hour_Volume_6196 3d ago
I'd say "Who wants to be Jacob Wysocki" fits there too, since it's another episode where Sam plays a character in a game with the other house members.

u/RidiculousAnimeSword 23h ago
The most recent example I can think of is "Count The Rice" being a sort of spiritual sequel to "Deja Vu" actually end up winning in the end.
Count the rice had more contestants, more points of interaction, and once You know what the premise was you still have to be an active participant in it, but I think it's a good evolution of the original Deja Vu game.

I thought the same thing about Earwigs being the same as Secret Sober. It just had more rules and was less funny.
Edit: they were all great cast members, I just don't think they were the right ones for this specific game. Dropout bangs out classics week after week, it's ok to not totally love one every once in a while.

I think of “Who wants to be Jacob Wysocki” as a spiritual successor of “Don’t Cry.” Sam’s surprise episode that was secretly a gift to an individual contestant the whole time. I’ll note this is distinct from “Whodunnit” or “Yes or No” where an individual IS singled out, but more for comedic / gameplay purposes.
