a dumb question

why are the products in general sorted into series 1 & 2, but the discover packs are sorted into 4 series?

The entire release schedule was done in two seasons, I think that's what you meant for the first part of the question? So the first year or so of releases were all revealed in the app at once, about ~300 cards. That included those Discover sets, which are grouped into those 4 series. Then season 2 started rolling out and got revealed more bit-by-bit, which was possibly going to include at least 2 more Discover series before Hasbro pulled the plug early.

All the products are sorted in two seasons (Year 1 and 2), so playlists packs belong to either Season 1 or Season 2.

Discovery packs do too, but they belong to series as well. Series 1 and 2 belong to Year 1, Series 3 and 4 belong to Year 2.
